We had the good fortune of connecting with Tenishia B. Lester and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Tenishia B., what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
My business began with authoring my first book Arrested Development: A Journey to Discovering Identity & Purpose (available on Amazon). After writing my life story of surviving sexual abuse, trauma and the multifaceted affects that it can have on life, I decided to seek a way that I could help others. While I was going through my struggles, I felt like I was alone and trapped in my issues. I realized that if I felt that way, then certainly there are others out there suffering in silence as well. I knew that this would be my opportunity to be a voice for others, while providing language that I needed back then, yet could not find given the stigma of the topic. I realized that others would often tell me their stories/experiences while asking for advice, with such a level of trust in me that I could utilize that strength. Therefore, I sought training to be a Certified Life & Business Coach.
What should our readers know about your business?
My coaching business and programs address trauma (which varies in topic such as divorce, natural disasters, grief etc.) life challenges and self-sabotaging behaviors that tend to thwart purpose and hinder identity, which spanned the gamut of life and business. Tenishia B. Lester Enterprises, LLC encompasses Coaching for Life and Business, Christian Coaching, as well as being an Author & Speaker. I offer group coaching programs, VIP services, book coaching and 1:1 coaching. I coach individuals to recalibrate and rediscover their purpose, passion and identity. I encourage, empower, educate and equip them to live with boldness, tenacity and courage.
I am most proud of overcoming the difficult, yet life altering effects of sexual trauma by examining my life and recognizing that there had to be more than what I knew of life to that point by being tenacious in my pursuit of healing to discover my purpose. Discovering my purpose, allowed me to seek a means to assist others in the same pursuit by becoming a Certified Coach, sharing my experiences, knowledge and process.
I have learned many lessons along my journey to healing and wholeness. But the one that sticks out the most is that your trauma does not define who you are or what you have the ability and capacity to achieve. You can be free from the negative stigma that surrounds tramua, sexual abuse and life struggles to live the life that you dreamed of.
I want the world to know that healing is a journey through hills and valleys, you may not get it right every time but you will get there with tenacity, courage and boldness. Healing is not a destination, it is a journey.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I find the most interesting and fun things to do in Atlanta:
- Escape Rooms, Axe Throwing
- Atlanta Botanical Gardens- where they have themed exhibits
- High Falls Park, Amicalola Falls State Park- where you can take a hike or a casual stroll just to enjoy nature and the falls
- Shopping at the Tanger Outlets or the Mall of Georgia
- Restaurants: Ms. Icey’s Kitchen, Shaking Crab, Southern Gentleman, Pappadeaux (Any restaurant that has seafood is always a favorite for me. There are always new places and cuisines to discover.)
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
There are many people that I would shout out, my parents, my son and grandson. However, with the recent loss of my mentor Pastor & Prophetess Cassandra Elliott, I dedicate this to her. She came into my life at a time of shifting from being a person that is used to and utterly comfortable with being in the background. PC, as she was affectionately called, helped to push, support, encourage, correct, love and thrust me into the areas that I needed to stand out in and embrace. She would push me to teach, write, create products & programs, host conferences and she pulled on my technological prowess to enhance my business. PC often allowed me the opportunity to teach her classes, offer my opinion or expertise for her business, and I provided administrative support for her global platform. So PC, this one’s for you, as you would say, “God bless your whole life.”
