We had the good fortune of connecting with Taylor Ullrich and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Taylor, we’d love to hear about how you approach risk and risk-taking
Guitar building in my opinion should always venture to the risky side, push boundaries. Never accept standards and always think outside the box.
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
BraidMFG started truly in 2018 after years and years of guitar research within buying, sales and trades I wanted to create something one of a kind every time but still have the budget for beginner to pro levels. Nothing about starting a small buisness/guitar building buisness for that matter is easy but all I wanted to do was test boundaries within the guitar building community. I want something personal for the musician something they are proud to have on stage and show off to others…accomplishing that was not easy and I had to crate my own “niche” and I found that bright acrylics and reclaimed material varying from used hardware to parts pulled right off an old guitar and placed on a more modern guitar….I was looking for like minded artists/musicians to say “I want my granddads vintage pickup in a new guitar so I can carry that tone with me” and that has meaning and soul and tone. I’ve learned to do what I want more than ever and that people like minded people will want what I produce and that’s the path I want to take with BraidMFG. Personal. Custom.meaningful.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Due to Covid-19 the music industry and artists have taken a massive hit. We need to get this all sorted in a safe way so that we are all able to support musicians and bars/venues to ensure we still give the city life. I would hope that a touring musician or local artist/musician reading this will understand that this will pass and you have open arms support when you guys get back into live shows, for now write, perfect, and bring to the table what you would always hope for your art/music
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
