We had the good fortune of connecting with Taylor Cottingham and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Taylor, what role has risk played in your life or career?
I think taking risk is important. Most of the time when you take risk everything falls in your favor and you wonder why you were even nervous about it. The few times that it doesn’t go exactly as planned its still a learning experience and you gain knowledge from the situation. If you look at the positives its a win-win. My business actually started because I took a risk! I did my very first pop up shop at a big event having absolutely zero knowledge and barely enough products to fill up a table. With the help of google, pinterest, and my Fiance I had such a successful night and learned so much! That was my first time ever really talking to people about crystals and I loved it. Taking that risk gave me the motivation to keep going and start my website.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
Intuitive Soul is a crystal shop with products for your mind body and soul. What sets me apart from others is that not only am I very knowledgeable but I am a very open person. So when I talk to people about the different healing properties my products hold I also tell them my personal experience with them. Even if its something that people may view as really personal I will share it if I feel like it will help them on their journey. I truly share a little piece of my life with each customer. My favorite thing about being in the crystal business and what I’m most proud of is the connections I make. I have created so many friendships and close bonds with people shopping with me. Getting to where I am today I wouldn’t say was easy but the hard work was definitely more mental than physical. I learned your mindset is truly everything. Your mind set is what’s going to get you where you need to be in life and in business. I want the world to know that Intuitive Soul was started to help people become their best version of themselves.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
A few years ago the plan would’ve been to party at every moment of the day but I’m definitely more chill now. Since I am a vegetarian and most of my friends are not Velvet taco would be high on the food list! They have the best tacos and serve alcoholic beverages, every one loves tacos and alcohol. If we wanted to go somewhere a little nicer Tulum would be a nice spot, but basically we are eating mexican food the whole week. Drinks in Deep Ellum because its such a chill area, You can literally go to any bar in deep ellum in heels or sneakers and still be in dress code. Dallas also has a few secret bars that’s always cool to take a friend to. Sometime during that week we would have to get a yoga session in with Vanna Collins or Devyn. They are two of the best yoga instructors in Dallas and their music and personality are a total vibe. A day on the lake because being in water is my happy place. Its fun and can also be extremely calming. My family likes to cookout and invite people over to chill and drink by the pool so I’m sure we would end the week enjoying each others company and doing just that.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I want to give a special shoutout to my bestfriend Abrianna Snipes. She helped in the very early stages from spending hours making crystal jewelry with me to setting up my first event . I also have to shoutout my fiance Abdul Timsah for doing all the behind the scenes work that keeps my business going because even when he thought crystals were just “rocks” he supported the vision!
