We had the good fortune of connecting with Tawanna Marsh and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Tawanna, we’d love to hear what makes you happy.
Having peace of mind makes me happy. When I am at peace I naturally radiate positive energy that becomes contagious to others in my world. That positive energy is everything.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
My career as a writer and entrepreneur was built over the past 22 years while married, raising a family, working as an IT professional in corporate America, training for marathons, building connections for my business, and writing on the side. It was tough to remain encouraged while juggling so many different responsibilities at once, but I don’t think anyone who has planned for longterm success in thier career would say that buildin was easy. While the process of building is ongoing, I stay grounded by remaining disciplined, protecting my own individual energy, and constant goal monitoring. A motto for my career is the popular quote by William H. Johnsen, “if it is to be, it is up to me.”

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Notwithstanding their own personal preferences, I’d plan the week around a local festival (music/carnival/themed) of sorts, one where family and friends have invited others to do the same. In the days following the festival I’d throw in a few of their personal favorite activities, i.e. shopping, getting massages, catching a good movie, etc., while the nights are spent at kickbacks, theater shows, or world music/jazz/symphony outdoor concerts. We’d visit nearby vineyards, parasail, jet ski hike, or AFV during day trips, and enjoy sunset cruises, salsa, zydeco, art exhibits or popups, and country dance halls in the evenings. As a wrap-up I’d give them tours of the historical landmarks in the city. I’m sure to send them home completely exhausted and in full need of another vacation!

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
My writing mentor, award-winning author and VONA (Voices of our Nation Arts Foundation) founder Elmaz Abinader who taught me to write what bubbles up to the surface. She is a fearless force of nature. She taught me her fearlessness
