We had the good fortune of connecting with Tarshianna Morrow and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Tarshianna, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
After working in corporate as a Nail Tech, my thought process behind starting my own business was that I wanted to be in the driver’s seat of my destiny. I had the opportunity to create the ambiance I desired for my business. Becoming an entrepreneur meant freedom to express my craft just as I envisioned it. That’s important to creatives. I found, after working for different spas, the corporate environment can suffocate you as a creative. Stepping into entrepreneurship meant having creative control by designing the experience I desired for every person I came into contact with.

Please tell us more about your business. We’d love to hear what sets you apart from others, what you are most proud of or excited about. How did you get to where you are today business-wise. Was it easy? If not, how did you overcome the challenges? What are the lessons you’ve learned along the way. What do you want the world to know about you or your brand and story?
What sets me apart from others is that I sell an experience, not just self-care services. I am intentional about connecting with every person that frequents my salon. I know the value of the human experience, especially in a world where the its value has depreciated.

What I’m most excited about right now is my body care product line, Apulens (www.apulens.com). Apulens is a product that I created in my own kitchen and I use it in my nail services. I created Apulens to be more confident about what was going on my clients’ skin.

I got to where I am today professionally by believing in myself and taking risks. Was it easy? Not at all. I have overcome challenges by being consistent and persistent. As a business owner, there are always going to be challenges and setbacks along the way, it’s all about how you recover from the challenges and setbacks. I use my challenges and setbacks as launching pads to my greatness. You will eventually find the formula that works best for you. A couple lessons I’ve learned along the way is that anything easy does not last long and that success is not measured by the amount of money you earn, it’s about whether you can look at yourself in the mirror after gaining said success. What I want the world to know about me is that I absolutely love what I do and that my story is still being written.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
If I had a friend visiting the city, for food and drinks I’d take them to True Kitchen and Cocktails. I might even take them to BAM Vegan restaurant. I don’t hang out much these days so we’d probably end up visiting my 87 year-old grandmother. Another favorite place of mine to hang out is, my house with my family. Lol! The most fun and interesting things I’d take a friend to are a concert or a really good restaurant with live music.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
God deserves the first shoutout for imparting me this gift and trusting me with it. I want to shoutout my awesome husband (Gino Morrow), he deserves credit for always supporting me, encouraging me and being my cheerleader. He helped to brand my business, he is the designer behind my logos and he also designed my beautiful mini salon suite. I’d like to also shoutout Michelle Carter, who gave me my first Nail Tech job. Shoutout to my mentor, Missy Malone, who has always been an inspiration and a trendsetter. My final shoutout goes to my family, friends and clients, who’ve shown continuous support by entrusting their self-care to me. Thank you all!
