We had the good fortune of connecting with Tani Lamb and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Tani, we’d love to hear what makes you happy.
One thing that makes me happy is encouraging others to reach outside of their boxes in order to expand a little outside of their comfort zones. Why? I enjoy nudging individuals to reach outside of their comfort zones because the result is rewarding even when the outcome is not as expected or desired. People are often hindered because they are fearful of the opinions of others instead of striving for their own happiness. I do believe that this fear of trying is the root of some of the online bullying and the in-person left-handed compliments. The resentment felt for seeing someone other than yourself accomplish a dream that you secretly harbored, but lacked the courage to pursue, can be powerful. So, I believe if you strive, but fail, you have earned the morale needed to appreciate the obstacles that others have overcome to achieve their dreams. For this reason, I encourage other women to change their hair, their makeup, explore a new career path, taste the unfamiliar, and take that exotic trip. You only live once and I believe many people think that this life is a dress rehearsal. I just want people to have the least amount of regrets possible and to live their best lives.
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I am currently in the building phase of my YouTube channel and attempting to organize and structure videos in order to layout a content catalog. I believe providing accurate destination information fused with local perspective is what will help set my YouTube channel apart. Many of my YouTube searches for destination videos have yielded beautiful breathtaking scenery, but little useful practical information or vice versa. I am attempting to make informative yet fun videos that I would want to watch in preparation for a vacation. I believe I am where I am today because I am willing to take chances and I am consistent. Taking chances and reaching out to people can be painful due to the fear of rejection, but sometimes it is a necessary obstacle. People often think that I am a bit audacious because under most circumstances, and given the opportunity, I will take the chance. One example is when I entered the first book that I had ever written into two book festivals. I saw the festivals online and it seemed promising. “T Sees an Island” received honorable mention in the first festival and placed third in the other. I often hear people give reasons for why they should not instead of why the should. I always say that the worst thing that people could say is no. Consistency is crucial to any type of professional growth. I believe the misguided expectation is that success happens overnight. People often only see the end result without knowing the failed attempts, sleepless nights, and multiple rejections. You have to become deaf to the “are you there yet” songs and the “why is it taking so long” soliloquies. You have to continue to push even when the only one believing in you, is you. One of the main lessons that I have learned is to keep your endgame in mind and do not compare your progress to others during your journey. Your destinations are probably not similar anyway, so why would you take the same airplane to arrive in two different locations. A flight to Oklahoma is shorter and less arduous than a flight to Greece. But the 21-hour flight is well worth the pain when you arrive in the Mediterranean and taste the delectable cuisine and experience the spectacular views. As for my brand, I would just like for everyone to stop by “Travel with Tani” on YouTube and enjoy a little escape while we are living through this global pandemic. We can travel together, at home, and stay safe.
Any great local spots you’d like to shoutout?
I would like to begin by saying there are two Tani Tours available of DFW for my visitors. The first tour is the “Blue Tour” which includes your choice of museums. The Blue Tour museum options are the JFK Museum, the Stockyards in Ft. Worth, the Dallas Museum of Art, or the Perot Museum for the little people. This tour is combined with your selection from my favorite rooftop restaurants in Dallas. My guest can choose from HG Supply on Greenville, The Woolworth in Downtown Dallas, or the Statler. The second tour is the “Silver Tour” and includes your choice of live theatre at either the Winspear Opera House, the AT&T performing arts center, or Music Hall at Fair Park. This tour is combined with a bit of nature at either the Dallas Arboretum or the Fort Worth Botanic Garden. For those that prefer a little more, there is a bonus Tani Tour called the “Graffiti Crawl”. This tour explores the murals in Deep Ellum and continues into the evening exploring the Deep Ellum night scene.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I would like to give a shoutout to Kevin Franklin of KMG photography. He is the videographer for my YouTube travel vlog, “Travel with Tani”. His professionalism and command of graphics have far exceeded my expectations. He is attentive and hears my vision and communicates to ensure that he understands before he executes. He is also meticulous which is refreshing for me since I am a bit of a reformed perfectionist. He has done an exceedingly proficient job with my video productions and I am grateful.
