Meet T.Maree | Singer & Music Lover

We had the good fortune of connecting with T.Maree and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi T.Maree, what led you to pursuing a creative path professionally?
First of all, being “artsy” is just who I am. I was always into drawing in my school years and when I graduated I moved on to being a makeup artist, so I feel like my artistic career kind of chose me in a sense. Music has always been apart of me and I’ve been studying it since I was a child without really even knowing it. My dad always played music constantly from jazz, to r&b soul, to hip-hip, etc., so it’s been embedded in me from the jump. I have this one memory of me laying down on the couch listening to music from my portable cd player just being in my own little world. Feeling every emotion the music made me feel, just in awe that something could sound so good to me lol.. Having a deep love and passion for music along with a God given amazing voice it’s like I had no other choice in this lifetime to do or be anything else.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
Like I’ve said before my whole life I’ve been listening to countless amounts of music just waiting for the day I could finally make my own. I didn’t write my first song till 2018. It was challenging because I always struggled with writing in school so when it came to trying to write my own songs I’d just get stuck. Just from not being good at writing composition but also because I was young and didn’t really have anything to say or know how to say what I was feeling. But then I grew up and started going thru things, so I had a lot that I wanted to say but still didn’t know how to express them in writing form. Which prevented me even longer from really doing music. So fast forward to 2018 and I’ve gotten better at expressing myself thru writing but I needed beats to write over. Pj Lynn, one of the homies from P.O.W.E.R started making beats and showcasing them and I was like wow these are my freaking vibes like where have you been all this time LOL. So then I started to just write to his beats and that’s how my first single, “Goin” was made. After that, I created and released my very first EP which I’m sooo super proud of because I’ve come a long way in my development as an artist. Through this journey of just figuring out me and who I am as an artist, I’ve learned that things happen when they are supposed to happen, divine timing is everything. I want the world to know that I’m just a light soul that loves music and loves to make music that I love. And my advice to anyone would be to do what makes your soul happy. 🙂
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Coming from a small boring town anywhere in Dallas is cool to me. I go to Dallas just to drive around and to feel like I’m away. But recently I’ve been going to the Balcony Club every Monday night to do their open mic. I’m at the point in my life where I need to get out and try to socialize so that’s one of the ways I try. Always good energy and vibes there. Deep Ellem is always cool if you wanna get a bite to eat, drink a lil bit, or party if that’s what ya like. I’m a very lowkey, peaceful, nonchalant, easy to please kind of person, so if the scenery and vibes are good, it’s good with me.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
Shoutout to da fam who’s contributed greatly to my artistic abilities. My dad’s brothers are all musically inclined each playing some kind of instrument. I remember my uncle Gaylon always writing songs when I was younger and having me and my sister sing them. Even if it was just watching them play in church, I’d be amazed at how much passion they had while playing. Super inspiring. I also wanna shout out my P.O.W.E.R team who I’ve known my whole life. We’re all dope individually but the fact that we can create as a team AND organically at that is just exhilarating and feels like it’s meant to be. When you’re divinely protected and guided, things just work out for you.
