We had the good fortune of connecting with T.Cody Montana and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi T.Cody, what’s the most important lesson your business/career has taught you?
The BIGGEST lesson I could ever be taught from both my business & career is no matter what NEVER FOLD. Nothing in this life comes easy. So to get where we are trying to go, we’ve got to be able to deal with hardships and still put in the OVERTIME. Nobody is in charge but me. If I want anything done, I got to make it happen. When you fold you’re losing focus. You’re giving up not only on your business & career, but you’re giving up on yourself and everything you stand for. I started my business because I have multiple talents and I live for every single thing that I do. Realizing no one was going to help me and that I had no resources to get me started was tough. Hence NEVER FOLD being the motto of my brand. Learning this helps me to keep pushing no matter what or how long it takes.
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
All my forms of art come from the heart. Everything is made from a feeling. I believe what sets me apart from others is that I never like to create anything similar to others. I’ve always tried to create my own lane and give things my own touch. I am most proud of my growth as an artist in general. Learning new methods has helped me elevate. I am most excited about the new resources I have gotten a hold to because with that I can do so much more. I got to where I am today professionally by being dedicated and making whatever I had work. I couldn’t let things stop or slow me down. Things were definitely not easy. I never had the right amount of money or the proper utensils. As I said before I was dedicated and wouldn’t let anything stop me. I continued to make my art which made everything I know self taught. The lesson from this was you can do anything you set your mind to.
I wan’t the world to know that my brand is all about perseverance, showing that you’re a star no matter what and killing/mastering everything you do.
My story is to inspire everyone to keep pushing no matter what.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Honestly the only place I would go is midget town, Which is an old incinerator building that now has tons of graffiti everywhere. It’s good for photo shoots, videos, and well to tag up and paint. If I did choose to go to a restaurant, I would go to my new favorite Dirty Bones. I love their 24k gold boneless wings.
There’s truthfully not much that I enjoy in my city.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I would like to thank my parents, Woody & Sassy ,for creating such a masterpiece (ME) and for being as supportive as they can. Thanks to my brother JuJu for teaching me how to write my music down as a kid. Thanks to my big sis/2nd mother Damu for being the one who pushes me the hardest to pursue every bit of my dreams and keep me out of trouble. Big thanks to my nephews/brothers NikeBoyKen & Drift for being a motivation for me to make it as well. I want to thank the best Wife I could ask for Reesha, for holding me down and supporting me nonstop. S/O to my daughters & son, Zireana, Ja’Niyah and Joshua. They make sure I don’t slack off. Thank y’all for any support as well (@DJKORNBRED, Poo Loc/Bumpy Jaxson, Ge3, Qizoe, MontyCuhh, W.E.C., Raesha & Doug, E.TRUE of True Tresses, Tatted Art, PerfectEyeFilmz, D-Hawk, ShotByTwiin, DopeBy Joe Bell, Kmelbeatz, LilTwonMusic) & many more.
