We had the good fortune of connecting with Shon Gardner and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Shon, how do you think about risk?
Taking risk has led me to where I am today. More than ever I move with assurance and I’m intentional with everything. I believe in betting on myself at all cost. I have always navigated with clear thoughts making sure that I seize every opportunity as it would led me to my next move. I often call myself a professional networker and thrive on being in rooms where opportunities present themselves or spreading my own table with other great people.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
Today I would describe my journey being one that has always been unstoppable. That comes with me using all of my gifts to the max from having a performance background, pursuing a degree as a culinary artist, even creating hand crafted garments as a designer and stylist, to know having my own media platform, and now a nonprofit for mental health and suicidal prevention. As a kid I knew that I would always work in a space that would allow me to be unboxed. My mom has always said “you just do what you want to do” lol. But at that time maybe that was from the disciplinary perspective. You can say that statement was aligned with my daily walk in life to achieve. As far back as I can remember, I would often find myself in positions of leadership thriving others to be the best version of themselves. I really didn’t own it because I was still finding my path. Throughout my journey, I’ve realized if the connection of relationships are not intentional with growth then what purpose does it serve. When it’s all over I just want to be a change maker with those I’ve encountered.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Wow this is a good one! Hmm for brunch I would definitely be at anyplace that Chef RJ The Sauce Boss is at. You can never go wrong with live music and a good mix of a hiphop dj and that would be Sandaga by fair park or Lava Cantina in the Colony. Lit vibes are a must have! I also love black creators so we would definitely go to Daisha Board Gallery. I definitely cant leave out the Improv Comedy Club depending on who would be in town cause I’m a goof ball of energy with a big sense of humor. Overall it soo many hotspots to name.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
First definitely God. When we are born we don’t know the greatness that he is  developing  in us along our journey each day. Life is a mystery rollercoaster til you find your purpose, and I don’t regret no part of this on going ride.

Secondly my mother. To walk alongside a person with soo much faith, overcome any and everything and still stand on her own two feet as a single mother of three says a lot. Her prays, character, courage and strength is like no other.

Lastly, a person I admire soo much Tyler Perry. Towards the end of 2023 I watched his documentary and finished reading his book Higher is Calling at the top of this year. I saw soo much of myself in him and his journey. It takes a lot to mute the noise around you, but that comes with discipline and tunnel vision. He changed my perspective on how I see challenges that come as we are climbing the ladder to our next. As a visionary what you see can’t be defined by other viewpoints.
