We had the good fortune of connecting with Shanteé Mims and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Shanteé, why did you decide to pursue a creative path?
When I’m faced with a challenge I check the level of my glass to begin with. From there I allow creativity to guide me as an instinctive tool. The creative path also gives me the ability to make new opportunities wile having fun. When I started bartending I realized very early that I didn’t care for working in restaurants and hotels. With that I gave event bartending a try without ever looking back. It took creativity to get me from behind a bar to owner of a bar. There’s been challenges for sure, but they don’t outweigh the positives. I’m definitely having fun!

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
Smims Mixology is a mobile cocktail experience that aims to nurture human connections with delicious cocktails. We collaborate with event hosts to create unique cocktail experiences. It starts with the menu. We have a selection of cocktails and we tailor each experience to the occasion. On the day of the event we’ll get the party started with delicious cocktails. The Smims experience has been a buzz in DFW since May, 2019 and we’re excited to extend our services to ATX as of March, 2022!
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
For great cocktails with an ambiance I recommend 3 Eleven Kitchen and Cocktails (Modern American) and Kitchen + Kocktails (Soul food). Daq & Mag Daiquiri’s is another great soul food spot for take out. I really enjoy the daiquiris. Desta Ethiopian is my favorite Ethiopian restaurant in town. I like the entire menu but I normally order the veggie platter with lamb tibs. I also recommend The Boiling Crab for a good seafood boil.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I’m forever grateful for the love and support of my parents and relatives. It takes a village for sure! I give thanks to my wife Chanelle for embarking entrepreneurship with me. There’d be no Smims without the Mims for certain! I’d like to thank Business Mindset Coach Dave Jones for his daily encouragement and his unique contributions to the Smims Brand. I’m also honored for the opportunity to mentor Derica Booker through her journey as a fellow bartender.

Finally I’d like to thank CIR Design for capturing the essence of the Smims brand with professional photos.
