We had the good fortune of connecting with Sarena Spurlock and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Sarena, what habits do you feel helped you succeed?
1. Prayer – In prayer is where I get my help, confidence , wisdom and direction. It’s my place of refuge. Every good thing in my life was birth in prayer.
2. Reading- I am a avid reader, it helps to keep me informed in a world that’s constantly changing. Reading is my therapeutic way of relaxing and putting my mind at ease.
3. Early Riser- I wake up every morning at 3am. I Listen to motivation , write in my journal , meditate etc.. I’ve been waking up at 3am since college , no alarm clock needed my passion wakes me up!
I believe we all have to do what works best for our lifestyle. These 3 habits has catapult me to do what I’m doing today.
Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
I own a Women’s Boutique – Above Reproach Boutique in Desoto, Tx.
We sell clothing sizes small up to 3X, jewelry, handbags and shoes. I believe what sets me apart is that, I target the entire family of women instead of one generation. I have customers that shop with me , their children and grandchildren all shop with me. . Style has no age so I make sure to find pieces that appease a plethora of backgrounds and interest.
I’m excited to see my business continue to evolve and most proud to hear and see my customers feedback of our customer service , from the love they receive when wearing one of my pieces etc.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I have a couple of go to places when I have family visit
Lunch – . One of my fav places to eat is Yard Bird – downtown Dallas.
Museum – Museum of Illusions – great for large groups and you can capture instagram able pics with all the cool backgrounds.
I always take my fam to the cake bar. It’s over 50 different kind of cakes and you only have to purchase a slice .. My fav is carrot cake with cream cheese.
I move to Dallas in 2019 right before the pandemic so I’m still creating my list.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
My mentor – Eric Thomas (hip hop preacher) I listen to Eric YouTube videos every day Literally! Especially when I’m having a bad or just a I don’t feel like working type of day -I listen to his messages. Faith comes by hearing so I make sure to listen daily. His teachings has lifted me from mediocrity , from lack, from insecurity, and from plain laziness. He helped me to find my “ WHY” I’ve never met him in person and really don’t need to as long as I can log on you tube and instagram to get fed..
