We had the good fortune of connecting with Randa Westermann and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Randa, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
I felt like there was a need for my business. I believe that as wonderful as social media and online shopping is there is a negative side that often can affect a person’s self image.

This negative self image can be caused by several things. For example, when a woman makes a purchase based on an influencer , a trend or because of a brand, often that clothing item may not work for that individual. The individual then feels frustrated and will often place blame on themselves. Often this negative talk may sound like, “I need to lose weight”, ” Im too old,” etc. The consumer will compare themselves to the person ,the influencer, model or friend that they saw wearing the item and begin to feel bad that they don’t look like that other person.

Whereas if a person knew what colors and what styles were designed specifically for her coloring and body architecture, they would have knowledge of how to make purchases that honor their authentic selves. No longer would you shop because of a trend or another person but you would shop for what is best for you.

I show people the styles that fit them best , based on their linear body proportions and their style personality. I also use color science to determine a person’s best colors and shades . When you are wearing shades that enhance your natural undertones, you will look refreshed, younger, healthier, and shopping for clothes becomes easier.

When a person has this knowledge it enables them to no longer guess at hair color, makeup, jewelry tones, business attire and all clothing types.. This newfound knowledge breeds confidence and a person becomes a smarter shopper because they no longer follow trends, they make smart purchases and the result becomes a well curated closet with less clothes but more options and an improved self image.

What should our readers know about your business?
My business is a service based franchise created over 30 years ago in the UK. A few years ago this company opened it’s doors for individuals in the US to purchase a franchise.

I went through a rigorous application process to apply to be considered. Once my territory was selected, I created a business plan and bought House of Colour Frisco. It took over a year to be trained and to learn the end and outs of the business. There are less than 75 franchises in the USA .

This business is based on offering unique, private services for individuals. I provide style guidance by assessing a person’s best style personality, determine their seasonal color using color science and then help them edit their closet.

I provide personal shopping, closet clean outs and consult with both men and women. My clients may be teachers looking for affordable, stylish wok clothes, a new mom needing comfortable, stylish easy to wear options, business professionals looking to improve their visibility for a promotion and my newest clients are pageant contestants that want to select colors and styles that make them unforgettable, I particularly enjoy working with young professionals helping them nail their first impression with the proper colors and style for their headshot . Also, I like working with brides to be assessing if their gown should be white or cream.

What also sets me apart from other stylist is I do not endorse or receive commission for any specific brand, store or company. I work for the client and I teach them how to navigate stores so that they can quickly locate their color, then apply the 3 point rule to assess the proper style .

My business is new to the Frisco area and I am pleased at how steady my business is growing. There are some misconceptions, I am not a MLM. I can not offer online color analysis because I need natural light to see your skin and see you in person to know how your skin, eyes and hair react when I access your color. Also, to ensure proper measurements for your fit, I prefer to do that person.

I appreciate all the referrals that my clients give to others and anticipate growth in the coming year and will most likely need to employ an associate or two. and move to a larger space.

The lesson I am learning is patience. I believe that I am really good at what I do and I am so passionate about providing others high quality service that provides personalization that makes my clients feel like Im the friend that they would take with them shopping for advice .

My clients leave feeling empowered, beautiful and ready to take on their life dressed in confidence!

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I actually have a friend coming to visit from Cleveland soon so this is a great practice for me to plan. Once she arrives , we will get caught up while I serve her an amazing charcuterie board that I ordered from Fig & Goat.

After we freshen up , we will head out for a cocktail and I would take her to J. Theodore located in the Shops at Starwood in Frisco. Since my friend has never been to Texas and she loves football we would head over to the Star and take a quick tour of the Ford Center, the practice field and the Nike Star walk. Next stop will be Mi Cocina for dinner, after all this was the very place that my husband took me for our first date and we visit one of the several locations in our area almost every Friday night. My friend has heard all about our date night location , and I know she will want to go and try one of the several items that we love on the menu. If it is still light out afterwards, we would head over to Hall Park to walk around the art structures and take in the unique sites.

Saturday morning will begin with a walk on the beautiful trails right outside my door. Living at the Tribute offers residents hiking trails, and walking paths. My favorite route is through the butterfly trail all the way down to the boardwalk where I can see Lake Lewisville and sit on a bench to take in the beauty.
When we make our way back home, we will hop in the car and drive to Summer Moon Coffee for a cup of their yummy wood fired drip coffees.

Because we both love to be pampered, I will arrange for us to have a spa day at Hiatus Spa, which just opened at the Star and wrap our morning of luxury with manicures at my favorite nail bar Aura Nails.

I will let her pick a location for a light lunch but I would recommend take out from Chido Taco Lounge or a healthy salad from The Chop Shop.

Shopping will be our go to activity and since I know she loves unique boutiques, there are several in Frisco that we will pop into.

Dinner reservations will be at Del Frisco’s located in Legacy West and as we wait for our reservations we may pop into more shops in this amazing location.

Sunday morning would involve a late brunch and my husband and I usually offer our guest the choice of one of our top 3 picks, Frisco Diner, First Watch, or 5th Street Patio Cafe. followed with a trip to the Dallas Arboretum.

Sunday evening is usually spent grilling out and enjoying the quiet retreat of our backyard where we love to entertain and where I am sure we will stay up late and talk and plan our next get together.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
In my journey towards finding what truly makes me feel like I’m in the center of my purpose, there have been many people that have supported me and my goals.

My mother told me at a very early age , I could do anything if I believed in myself. She never told me that I couldn’t do something, she encouraged me to do my research, make a list of pros and cons , design a plan of action and work my plan.

In high school I read the book, “See you at the Top”, by Zig Ziglar. I had never read anything like this book and it truly opened my eyes and my thinking at the power of a healthy mindset, daily affirmations and how to set goals. As I grew in my Christian faith I was able to apply biblical principles to further my belief that I was designed for success and that there was a purpose for my life .

I have had many set backs. In the year 2000 my only brother died in a car accident, then in 2005 I was diagnosed with breast cancer. I am thankful that today I can say I am a survivor . Perhaps the most horrific experience that I have endured was the loss of my only child Brock. At the age of 18 my son was in a fatal car accident. It was caused by poor weather conditions and due to ice and poor visibility his car slid off the road resulting in a crash . He was a freshman in college on an athletic scholarship playing soccer. He was home for the Christmas break and went out to meet a friend to play basketball on a cold but clear January morning, The conditions grew worse and after he dropped off his friend safely, he never came home.

It has been ten years since my son passed away and it has been a terrible, heart wrenching period of grief. I know that my faith, my parents , husband and close friends have been vital to me coping with the loss. Also there is an organization called Grief Share that really helped me learn to understand , accept and learn to live with my grief.

Ultimately , I feel like my strength comes from my faith and my determination to make my son proud of me. For Brock, I decided that I would live with a purpose. I would choose things that I am passionate about that helps others and fill my days with joy . Sharing that joy with others enables them to show up in their lives being all they were made to be and that breeds positivity that can spread to help others .
