We had the good fortune of connecting with Rafaela Orlando and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Rafaela, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
I got to a point where I finally realized a 9-5 wasn’t for me.

I am creative and artistic. Being behind a desk was not my cup of tea.

After years of contemplating, I made the decision that if I wanted to be happy in my professional life,

I would have to do something I was passionate about.

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
When I decided to pursue my passion as a Makeup Artist, I was a single mom working a 9-5.

I knew I didn’t belong there, because I was in love with the Beauty Industry. For years I kept going back and fourth out of fear.

When I finally realized that the Fear of staying the same was greater than the fear of change, I knew it was time to take action.

I wanted to be happy in my professional life, and I wasn’t going to let myself stand in my own way.

I quit my job, went back to bartending and started my business out of my house.

It definitely wasn’t easy, but I was so happy doing what I loved that I knew I had made the right decision and there was NO looking back.

I maxed out all my credit cards, I stretched myself thin and I made it work.

When I was able to quit bartending and go full time with my Bridal Makeup Business I opened my studio “BeautyByRafa” and never looked back!

What sets me apart from Others and what kept my clients coming back is my dedication to making them happy and listening to their vision.

I was able to train others and form a team of artists to take on bigger weddings and I absolutely fell in love with teaching. I have always been a teacher by nature and training others is where I really feel full filled.

All was well until the pandemic hit and we had to shut everything down and let go of my studio location.

I took that time to reassess and cross off one of the goals on my list of and Focus on a long time Passion project of launching a Coaching Program for beginners.

It was not easy with all the stress of the whole pandemic and also completely shifting the focus of my business on top of having been shut down for 2 months.

However, I did not let that stop me. I focused on my goal and I made it happen. I invested everything in renovating my new studio space and my coaching program to start fresh and I’m happy to say BeautyByRafa came back bigger in Sept 2020.

I was able to get back to pursue my Goal and launch my Program to train Aspiring Makeup Artists that are where I was once to turn their Passion into Income by building their own Makeup Business from Scratch.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I would take her to all the little hole in the wall best bbq places and taco places.

Legacy Hall is also once of my favorite little areas where it’s an all in one fun, food & entertainment.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
Every Creative/Artistic person out there that has taken a leap of faith in themselves to do the “untraditional “ and pursue a career out side of “Corporate America” has been my inspiration.

Just seeing others like myself going out on their own and living their true passion in the Beauty Industry really encouraged me.
