We had the good fortune of connecting with Rachel Atkinson and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Rachel, is your business focused on helping the community? If so, how?
I have always wanted to help people live healthier lives. The city of Myrtle Beach is home to tens of thousands of people and just a few years ago there were not very many healthy “fast food” places. I opened up Projuicery to serve our community and give locals and tourists a better option when they’re at the beach. We opened the doors in June of 2020, after a couple months of lockdown and had a very busy summer! We offer fresh cold-pressed juices, smoothies, protein shakes, small healthy bites, and more! It is a quick stop, so people are in & out in under a couple minutes, which makes this a great healthy “fast food” place for people. We have helped so many with their post-workout shakes, smoothies and juices to grab on the way to work, juices to add fruits & veggies to their day, avocado toast and a juice for a healthy lunch, and so many other options. We answer questions about healthy foods and make suggestions based on people’s preferences or what they are looking for. We also sell a locally made elderberry syrup for immune support.

What should our readers know about your business?
The process of opening a brand new business from scratch is far from easy. There are many obstacles along the way, from legally forming the business, city regulations, state regulations, DHEC, hiring and training employees, payroll, and taxes it is a lot! And, as a first time business owner, all of this is brand new – so you kind of just figure it out along the way. You ask a lot of questions. Find someone in the same industry as you and get under their wing. Experience is the best resource!

My brand is unique because I come from a background of training people in fitness, and over the years watching them put in the work but still struggle to get results because of food. Eating too much, eating too little, not eating the right balance of macronutrients, eating processed food, etc. It is really frustrating when you spend 5 days a week working out for a year, and nothing has really changed. That is why I wanted a space where everything you buy will benefit your health in some way. Healthy protein options, healthy fats, and of course, living nutrients from fresh juices.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
The first thing we would do is go for a walk on the beach – no matter the weather! Being barefoot in the sand is so beneficial for the body, and I am so lucky to live in a place where that is an everyday option! I would show off all the locally owned health food shops (there are quite a few now!). We could go stand up paddle boarding in the inlet for a day and hang out at a bar by the water. Lastly, we’d eat at a farm-to-table restaurant, Crooked Oak.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
My local gym, ISI Elite Training (Iron Sharpens Iron), is who I would like to dedicate this shoutout to. I have been a part of this community as a coach for over five years. Through coaching group sessions and one-on-one training sessions, I have met hundreds of people who have later supported by business. I have been able to learn so much from all the members and training so many different people. It’s been such a rewarding experience and I am so thankful to be a part of the community the gym has created.
