We had the good fortune of connecting with Phillip White and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Phillip, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
When I came up for the idea to start an activewear brand my main focus was to create a great product. In a market of very simliar products I wanted to make sure to have a design aesthetic that was truly unique to me as a designer. I initially thought if Im looking for a style that is not on the market surely others would want that as well.
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
As a designer I often look to my surroundings to create clothing. I love travel and have been fortunate to have been to so many places around the world and continue to find inspiration in nature and in people. I have learned that not everyone will understand my wild ideas so I have to be focused on communicating my idea to graphic designers and factories. But once you do it then the next time it becomes a little bit easier in creating.Always remember your vision and be able to accept criticism of your ideas but know it will all work out in the end.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Hanging out in Dallas is so fun on weeknights and weekends. Recently I have been on a mission to find great patios to meet up with friends. Chelsea Corner is great for brunch. Jaxons is lively and often has music on saturdays. Micocina is always a fav for the mambo taxis. Parliament in my opinion is one of the best cocktails bars you will find in the city.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
Chris Weachock has been a great friend and such an asset to my brand helping me with my website and graphics. He is my plant loving IT angel and Im so grateful for him and his belief in my brand and me as a person.
