Meet Original Soul | Artist/Producer & CEO

We had the good fortune of connecting with Original Soul and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Original, why did you decide to pursue a creative path?
I chose an artistic career because of my love of the arts. I love words. I love to create. I like to hear how my thoughts play out and hope that what I have to offer may help someone else, or hope that others can relate.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
One of the things I’m most proud of is how I have been able to keep profanity out of my music and find other ways to express my thoughts. By doing this, I made it that much easier for my music to be played anywhere. I think that’s also been one of the challenges in this market, because so much of today’s music is centered around guns, drugs, and fornication, and glorifying material things. I go against the grain and talk about how those things impact our community and our youth, and the impact it has on our listening audience and consumers of our music. A lot of the music that was intended to be high vibrational is actually low vibrational in disguise and is mass manufactured over the airwaves, so much to the point to where the listener isn’t left with much of a choice of what to listen to. When they say, “You are what you eat”, it’s the same with the music. You become a product of what you are constantly exposed to. So why not put some good things in there. Hip-hop music is the one genre that is the most sought after but also the most competitive, and everyone is competing for airtime because they think it’s easy to do, based on what everyone else is doing. I choose to stay in my own lane and do music that feeds your spirit.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I’m not the most outgoing person but I do tend to like trying new places when the opportunity arises. I know one place that I visited, Recipe Dallas, I have to get back there. It’s one of those place where you just feel healthier when you eat there. Also, The Rail Club Live is turning into a go-to performance venue; my last few shows have all been there.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I am nothing without my family, friends, teachers, fellow artists, poets, creative spirits, press publications such as this, fans, and supporters of my music and my brand. This article would last forever if I was to mention every single entity that has been with me since day one of my 30-plus year music career, including those who are no longer here. So I choose to show gratitude for everyone that has been there, no matter the capacity.
