We had the good fortune of connecting with Olivia Welch and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Olivia, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
I come from a city in Nevada that offers very few choices for women who want to have a holistic pregnancy and physiologically natural birth, so when my husband and I moved to Texas I quickly started looking into the choices available here. I was absolutely amazed! There are birth centers, independent midwives, doulas, childbirth educators, chiropractors, holistic medical providers, and more. I was fortunate enough to connect with many of these incredible providers during the pregnancies of both of my children and I knew I wanted to be a part of their community. I started this business to show the families of DFW all of the choices they are lucky enough to have during their pregnancy and to provide the loving support pregnant and postpartum families need and so often don’t receive.
Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
You can find a lot of Christian doulas in the DFW area who are incredible, but something unique to me is my dedication to serving families that have trauma in their story. I took a year long class, through the Village Church, taught by two Christian LPC’s on supporting families who have experienced trauma or difficult family issues such as domestic violence, sexual abuse, severe mental disorders, and substance abuse. It is essential that my business is equipped to support my clients, no matter what their past looks like.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Is there any better way to start your day than with blazing huevos at BuzzBrews? I don’t think so! If the weather isn’t trying to boil us in humidity I love strolling around the Ft Worth zoo. On Saturday we’re going to the Denton Community Market to check out all the amazing vendors, like Pinned Ptera, Papoltol bakeshop, and O’Brien Bros. I love to show everyone who visits Nebraska Furniture Mart, because it’s INSANE how big it is, and because we have an excuse to go to Union Bear at The Boardwalk in Plano afterwards. We always go to the Dallas Botanical Gardens in the fall to check out the pumpkin farm. Finally, we have to get BBQ, so we’re headed to Marty B’s for dinner and getting some green chili mac and roasting s’mores at their fire pit while we watch a beautiful Texas sunset.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
My husband is my biggest supporter. His endless love and many sacrifices are the reason my business can receive so much of my heart and time. I owe much of the quality of my character to Faith Hepner, who took me in as a wild, immature 18 year old and poured her whole heart into mentoring me. Finally, for every piece that fell into place, every grace-filled lesson when I made a mistake, and everything good that is within me and throughout my business, the honor belongs to Jesus.
