Meet Natile Vinson | Analyst & Owner of Designs by NatVin

We had the good fortune of connecting with Natile Vinson and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Natile, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?

Over the years I always thought about starting a business of my own. I would quickly dismiss the thought because I would get stuck trying to figure out what type of business could I possibly have. Having my own business just seemed like a farfetched idea. While still desiring a business of my own, I happily and genuinely supported the businesses of those around me. I admired (and still do) the passion and hard work I witnessed them pour into something of their own.

During the summer of 2020 I had a conversation with a friend that changed my uncertainty about starting a business. I realized that for most of my adult life, I was always willing and ready to help other individuals with various aspects of their business. One day thought to myself, what would happen if I went hard for something that was my own, like I do for others?

The answer to my own question led to the creation of Designs by NatVin. My business is a direct reflection of the renewed mindset I had towards starting a business. I have always had interest in design, décor and “Do-It-yourself” projects. In 2018, I picked up a hobby of distressing my denim jackets and shirts. I even started distressing these items for friends and family members. Whether it was casual, comfy, cute or sexy, putting on one of my distressed pieces would complete the “look” I was aiming for. It was easy to pair a jacket or shirt with something already in my closet, resulting in endless outfit possibilities. Those initial distressed pieces are still my favorite items to date! Now I know what drives that passion and hard work, that I have seen in other business owners.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.

Outside of Designs by NatVin, I work professionally as a data analyst. I really enjoy the career of an analyst. I am given opportunities to take a problem and study it from every possible angle to determine the best solution to mitigating that problem. In my profession, I am responsible for creating comprehensive reports and converting them into an interactive visual dashboard for the end user. I am always creating a report or dashboard with the consumer in mind. I think that is what sets me apart from others. That is a skill that I am most proud of. It is what drives everything you see and interact with as it relates to Designs by NatVin. I want all my clients to have a pleasant experience whenever they browse the website, order items, or render my services.

The journey to my professional career had several challenges along the way. Having a training instructor background is what helped me and continues to help me overcome the challenges that arise with making a career change. I honestly believe in the strength of transferrable skills. All the duties and positions I previously held are nothing but a complement to my current position.

Some people say that I have a way of explaining things in a manner that takes the difficulty out of the subject being discussed. I believe that is just something that I innately do after so many years of instructing. When it comes to my business, one of the goals of Designs by NatVin is to take the difficulty out of finding custom and accessible apparel. My brand offers unique items that are made to complement each individual style. It does not take away from your style or uniqueness, it only adds to it.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
My support circle runs deep and extends wide. It includes family and friends who are more like family. Everyone who I am connected to has shown genuine support in some sort of fashion. I want them to know how much I appreciate the love, constant encouragement, and tangible support they each have blessed me with. It has helped me through the extremely long nights and early mornings that comes with the territory of starting a business. I love them and feel they all deserve credit and recognition in my business journey.
