Meet Monica Hurst | Videographer & Motion Films

We had the good fortune of connecting with Monica Hurst and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Monica, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
I have always been an entreprenuer. I’ve done the independent sales with various companies throughout the last 10-15 years. So, with the people in my life that has always given me love and support, I knew it was time to do something on my own. My sister encouraged me to learn videography and film. She mentored me through learning lighting, settings, angles and so much more. Owning my own business requires time management, self motivation, and so much more! I knew I wanted to do more than just weddings and the typical video shoots that you see every day. With my sister’s collaboration, we shoot mini session of hundreds of different themes, family sessions, cattle working videos, school promotion/fundraiser videos, then add some audio for a special touch, and it has been a blessing to be able to capture special moments and tell stories through my videography. That’s where my heart is!
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
My style is unique. I look for the hard angles. I’m not afraid to get dirty, get in water to get the best shot, on a horse, or risk some heights for that great angle. I capture life stories, whether it’s a newborn baby and a sweet letter from Mom & Dad or a High School Senior telling their parents how much they appreciate them, and add that into the video. I want others to know that I make the shoot fun and inviting and it’s okay to be uncomfortable in front of the camera. We will work through that and our shoot isn’t finished until the story is told! Monica Hurst Videography also captures the marketing world and advertising for businesses. Even with those, there is a story to be told. Bringing still object to life is exciting, whether it be a new, custom home or apparel. I feel like my job is to represent the client/company and bring their vision to life.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I live in Iola, TX, which is a small town located near Bryan-College Station. Of course, Texas A&M is nearby and there is so much to see and do there! Most of my friends and family have families of their own, so “fun” to us is a little different than it is to some. When I think of the most enjoyable time, my kids and husband are involved. We like to shoot pool, so the Dixie Chicken would be a kid-friendly daytime location to play pool, dominoes, and hang out. It’s a staple in College Station and a must-see. Century Square in College Station has a fun candy store, multiple restaurants, and plenty of drinks to be had!
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
There are so many people that have shaped my videography and my style, but if I had to pick one, it would be my sister, Kristi Bracewell with Kristi Bracewell Photography. She is top-notch, well-known, and my best friend. She’s my biggest supporter. Her honesty, encouragement, and love throughout my learning process has been exactly what I need. I look to her for suggestions, constructive criticism, and ideas. Everytime I shoot with her, I try to learn and attempt to see what she sees through her lens. Also, my husband Zack has been a huge support system for me. Many of the shoots, my kids are able to tag along, but he never falters when it comes to taking care of everything at home so I can chase my dream!
