We had the good fortune of connecting with Miraca Johnson and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Miraca, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
I started Mouthful because I wanted to create a platform where real people could have real conversations about real life. I see so many conversations and posts about relationships, marriage, social/racial issues, new parenting, health, wealth, politics, sports and generational issues on social media and I wanted Mouthful to be a safe place where people can actually sit down at a table and have the those same conversations, but face to face. I think sometimes we get comfortable texting and communicating via phone that we lose that sense of feeling and emotion through verbal conversations. There is so much miscommunication by text or comments. You can’t hear or feel what that other person is really saying and I want to bring that back to life. Like Biggie said, “We can’t change the world unless we change ourselves,” and I believe if we bring these conversations to the table to talk about it, that change CAN happen.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
What sets me apart from others is I don’t do it for the money, I do it for the people.

I’m not where I want to be professionally just yet, but I got this far by simply just doing it. By following my heart and going after what I want.

Heck no, it’s not easy! It’s by far the most discouraging and challenging thing I have ever done in my entire life. I still haven’t overcome my challenges because I’m still being challenged everyday. I’m still trying to make it. Faith is what’s keeping me going! Faith is my reason for not giving up, so I guess you can say faith is how I am overcoming my challenges lol.

The biggest lesson I’ve learned is to trust God and stay focus. You will not be successful if you are not focused on what you are trying to accomplished. And when I say focused, I mean being obsessed with your passion and putting in long and hard hours every single day.

I just want the world to know that Mouthful will be the new generation of talk shows.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
If both my best friends were still alive, me and Dee Dee would go to the gym and play basketball all week long and head over to her mom’s house to eat some good Mexican food. Jade and I would sit down and talk all day and maybe go shopping and eat junk food.

I don’t get out much so there is not a lot I would do outside of spending time with my family and writing.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
God, my daughter and my family. My reasons for living and going so hard everyday.
