We had the good fortune of connecting with Michele Hill and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Michele, do you have a favorite quote or affirmation?
“Faith without works is dead.” – James 2:17 Although this scripture is only five words, they give me strength and remind me to always work hard. I can have all of the faith in the world that I will be successful but if I’m not dedicated and working hard, there is no point. I apply this quote to every aspect of my life because nothing in the world comes easy. When I am told no or a door closes in my face, I always repeat this scripture to myself.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I’m a professional makeup artist that specializes in skin. In this makeup industry, there are different avenues you can go down. A few include special FX, bridal, red carpet, film and television. The industry is saturated and you have to do something that sets you apart of everyone else. I’m most proud of my ability to look at a person and quickly visualize the outcome. I’m different because I can capture what the client wants along with presenting my style with the makeup. My blending skills makes skin look like skin; a compliment I’ve received numerous of times from my clients. Although, I am not exactly where I want to be in my career currently, I am where I am today due to my professionalism and friendliness. I am a business woman which means customer service is my number one priority when enacting with my clients. The journey has not been an easy one, however I wouldn’t have it any other way. I’ve overcome many challenges throughout the years like being taken advantage of, inconsistent work, and dissatisfied clients. I was able to get past them by taking responsibility for my business and gaining knowledge outside of doing makeup. I’ve learned to be more assertive and not to compare my success to others. When I reach my goal, I’ll be proud of myself for the effort I put into my brand.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I’m a proud Texas and love the city of Dallas. I like to host parties and show my friends my favorite spots in the city. If I had to plan a week long adventure to take my bestie, I’d definitely start with an appetizing restaurant. Some of my favorites are “The Biscuit Bar”, “The Original Pancake House”, and “Terilli’s”. I love to dance so I would be making a few appearances at my favorite bar in Deep Ellum. The nerd in me would visit the Perot Museum of Nature and Science; learning is always fun. Going somewhere to view the Dallas skyline is a must!
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
No successful person did it on their own. There is always that one person that who gives you advice that changes your perspective on life or inspires you. It would be a pleasure to Shoutout my beautiful loving mother! I’ve had many positive influences throughout my life that have shaped the woman that I am today and continue to evolve into. But my mama has been by my side since the beginning of my makeup artist journey. From letting me practice on her face to grow my skills to her pouring words of wisdom into me to purchasing items for my kit. I stumbled throughout the early years of my career from lack of confidence in myself and abilities. With her encouragement and positive attitude, I’ve gained confidence in myself as a young lady and as a business woman. Honorable mention: My supportive friends. I really appreciate them for supporting my business by hiring me and helping grow my cliente by sharing my information.
