We had the good fortune of connecting with Memory Enogieru and Rebecca Montoya and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Memory & Rebecca, every day, we about how much execution matters, but we think ideas matter as well. How did you come up with the idea for your business?
We are two minority women that started a business in 2018, with the goal to empower other women encouraging them to be confident to embark on their own journey in starting their business in what they are passionate about.
We both met in college trying to join the same sorority and had worked along side each other for many years until we both graduated! We had built a strong relationship and had started to notice the lack of creative paraphernalia for geeks in the Denton/DFW area! We wanted something that not only undergraduates but alumnae would love no matter the age or occasion; this inspired us to come up with something that can not only allow us to fill the void in our community but to bond as friends doing something fun and creative!
We focus mainly on customizing items whether it’s for corporate events, weddings, party favors, or just because! We are slowly integrating our business to having a in house brand that showcases both of our nationalities, Memory being African American and Nigerian, and Rebecca being Mexican and Honduran. We want to show others how important our culture is and spread a little of our creativity! We love to say you ENVISION IT. WE MAKE IT A REALITY!
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
As VOLTAGE 158 we strive to make each and every encounter very intimate and personalized; we want all our clients to become what we consider “forever clients”. Relationships are a big focus for us as a company we will always try 1000% to ensure that not only your vision is being brought to life but your expectations are being exceeded! Being a small minority owned company, like many there have been bumpy roads along the way but we find the good and lessons in all the challenges we have endured over the years.
We want the world to know that we are always here to help! We want others to know that although we are small we are mighty and we will continue to learn, grow and make a mark on our generation and those that follow.
We are extremely proud of how far we have come with all the odds stacked up against us! We truly hope that we can motivate anyone with our story and show them that they can and will be able to make a mark in their community however they choose!
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I would make a reservation at the reunion tower to explore all of Dallas and have dinner at Five Sixty by Wolfgang Puck where they can experience the luxury of Dallas and all it’s glory.
I would have brunch the following day at Yellow Rose while enjoying their live mariachi band and from there take a deep dive into deep Elum to bar hop around the hippest parts of town. Dinner at Vidorra is a must where the open deck is the place to be as you enjoy music and drinks looking out at the Dallas skyline. Lastly we would book a tea reservation at the French Room where we will enjoy finger foods and sip some tea.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
We would love to shout out our sorority SIGMA LAMBDA ALPHA SORORITY, INC. without both of our passion, determination, drive, and will to be apart of such an organization while getting our education we would not have gotten the opportunity to build such a strong friendship and we would have not have had the opportunity to share this jointed venture of our company VOLTAGE 158 together!
