Meet Melissa Cabey | Actor & Nutrition Coach

We had the good fortune of connecting with Melissa Cabey and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Melissa, what do you attribute your success to?
The most important thing to me and my brand is that I always stand by what I am portraying as a nutrition coach. I have had a few different people (mostly personal trainers) ask to team up with me — however my mentality towards health and wellness did not at all align with theirs. Although those partnerships could have helped me get more clients, I wouldn’t have been true to my morals. I also always make sure that I am setting a good example for my clients as well as those around me. I focus on intuitive eating in my coaching, so you will never catch me talking about diets or cleanses or clean eating. I am constantly working to be a good example.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
Pursuing a career in musical theatre is no easy task. I was not born with a gifted singing voice or incredible dance facility. However, the second that I felt that spark towards theatre — I worked my butt off in those disciplines. I applied to 18 BFA musical theatre programs and was originally not accepted to any. I was waitlisted at Coastal Carolina University, and was eventually accepted. From that fact alone you could see the odds of me succeeding in this business were off to a rocky start. However, once I got to school, my hard work persisted and I improved immensely in those 4 years. I graduated with a job as a singer/dancer on a cruise ship – and a year after graduation I booked my dream job as a lead in the Broadway Tour “A Chorus Line”. It felt absolutely amazing to see my hard work paying off. Nothing is more gratifying.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
My absolute favorite spot in New York is “Fraunces Tavern”. It is one of the oldest buildings in NYC, and our founding fathers actually would meet there for drinks! It is a very historical and interesting restaurant, and their beer list is amazing!! I would take my friend there, and then immediately head uptown to catch a Broadway show. On the way back to my apartment, we would stop at “Sugar Hill Creamery” for the best icecream ever. This is a family owned business and it is just the cutest place ever!
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I would like to give a shout-out to my older siblings (Leanne, Rachael, and Billy). All three of them are incredibly talented and smart, and could have done just about anything with their life. They never once judged me for pursuing a career in the arts, and have been nothing but supportive of me when I opened my Nutrition Coaching business. They have always been very positive role models for me, and have shown me that any avenue I take in life, career wise, it is always up to me to create happiness. The grass isn’t always greener on the other side – you have to make the grass green wherever you are!
