We had the good fortune of connecting with Matt Wandersee and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Matt, where are your from? We’d love to hear about how your background has played a role in who you are today?
I am born in Chicago, raised in rural Minnesota, and from a middle class background. I was taught at an early age the value of hard work and honesty. After graduating high school, thankfully I was blessed with a football scholarship to a small school in MN (MN State-Moorhead) where I was able to play 5 years and attain a degree in Social Studies Education. I left the frozen tundra after tiring of the cold climate and moved south to TX, taking a teaching/coaching job following my football career. The relationships I developed after 10 years of education were invaluable to my success in Real Estate. Teachers/Coaches are some of the most loyal and awesome people I have ever met in my life. I transitioned out of education to real estate after my children were born to be able to have more flexibility in my schedule and for the obvious financial opportunities. I used the same skill set that brought me success in the education world to do what we do in real estate. I still get my teaching “high” in real estate while helping educate and walk through the problem solving process of achieving my clients’ real estate goals on a daily basis. I literally love what I do, and am so passionate about helping solve peoples’ problems dealing with quite possibly the biggest financial transaction of their lives; it’s my badge of honor to have them say that it was much easier than they anticipated. It happens everyday and I love it.
Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
I understand that buying or selling a home is more than just a transaction: it’s a life-changing experience. That’s why our team of highly-seasoned real estate professionals is dedicated to providing exceptional, personalized service for all of our clients. I take great pride in the relationships I build and always work relentlessly on the client’s behalf to help them achieve their real estate goals.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
If they were visiting my hometown of McKinney, I would of course take them to the gem of our town, the Historic Downtown Square. When you are down there, it feels like you are in that scene in the movie “Back to the Future” with that epic Americana town square. The Courthouse, the shops, the restaurants…you can’t ask for better. Then after that I would take them to the other gem of the town, the Adriatica district of West McKinney (also because I live golf cart distance away) to see a little village modeled after a Croatian sea port that is situated around a beautiful lake with plenty of fun things to do. Then afterwards we could head to my back patio for a beverage or two! 🙂 Finally if they had a little more time I would take them past our flagship MISD Football Stadium and hopefully call my friend Coach Shawn Pratt, MISD Athletic Director, and see if we can tour our UNBELIEVABLE high school football stadium that rivals any college stadium in the country.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
Patricia Brooks, my team supervisor, and mentor taught me like no other person in the industry, the ins and outs of the business. I owe everything I have to her. I got my license back in 2012 and was still teaching full time, and doing real estate what I thought would be “on the side.” Her direction coupled with my network turned into something special. Having two young babies, and teaching/coaching full time, my plate was full…she was generous enough to train me at all hours of the day, frequently teaching me contracts via text at 11 pm on a Tuesday, whatever it took to get the job done. We were able to build a sustainable business that grew so much that I was literally forced to leave teaching because I became so busy. I owe her everything. Secondly, my broker Chris Harden. About 3 years into being licensed at a boutique brokerage, I realized we had expanded so much that I couldn’t offer the same service to my agents that Patricia had offered me anymore. In steps Chris, we transitioned to RE/MAX and gained national exposure with the brand, but more so a broker that offered the same level of education, service, and family in an office that I had experienced personally with Patricia. I couldn’t see myself anywhere else. We literally have the BEST office environment in all of Texas.
