We had the good fortune of connecting with Maritza Rojas and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Maritza, where are your from? We’d love to hear about how your background has played a role in who you are today?
I’m a Texas gal through and through, born and raised. I am Mexican American and although I’m classified as first gen, my dad (and grandparents) came to Texas when he was around 5 years old. I would say that being raised in the Mexican culture and a tight-knit family/community, made me who I am today. I was taught to speak up for myself and others, have integrity and to never give up no matter what life throws at you and that’s exactly what I live by today.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I was at a franchise for 6.8 years, 19 years old to 26. 3 months after getting my esthetician license, I got a job waxing and fell in love. It wasn’t easy to be where I am today but the journey I had to get here was so worth the splinters, sweat and tears. The main lesson in all of this is that it doesn’t matter how much money you’re making, if your place of work or the people around you do not have integrity, you need to take risks and leave. Always remember where you came from and what is morally correct and fly! It’ll always be worth it. I would like the “world” and the community around me to know that I’ll always be true to myself and have my client’s best interest before ever trying to sell them something. Integrity is what I live on. I’ll always want them to be heard and feel beautiful!

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Hmm.. knowing my friends vibes, we would probably want to try new food spots and spend most of the week eating! Haha, I would definitely take them to Carrollton and eat my favorite soup dumplings! Maybe go to Spa Castle after since it’s right across the street, for a relaxing and chill sauna & hot tub day. Probably go to 7th street at some point in Fort Worth for a Sunday Funday vibe and bar hop. Every local has spent a lot of time there so I’d have to show them what the craze is about. Go eat some street tacos in south Fort Worth after. Most likely go to Grandscape if they wanted to do some type of activity! We’d go to Puttery, for sure. Also have my cousin and her friends take us to a drag show in Dallas!

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
My dad. He loves to say he saved me, which in reality, he did. He is my biggest reason and my biggest inspiration. He came from nothing, he and my grandparent had to hustle for everything they have today. He had so many odds stacked against him and now he’s at a job in Arizona that he only could’ve dreamed of. My parents split when I was pretty young and my birth mom took me to Mexico to live there for a couple years with her husband (not sure how long exaclty) and when she was about to have a baby, she called my dad the day she was in labor saying he needed to come get me and guess what? He did, he didn’t even think twice. He and his best friend at the time drove straight to the Mexico/Texas border from Fort Worth and I was with him ever since. He taught me that it doesn’t matter where you’re from or how many obstacles life throws at you, you WILL come out on top at the end. He never let me second guess myself and never let me give up. He showed me that no matter how people treat you, you need to stay true to yourself and be a good person.
