Meet Lizy Castro | Successful Entrepreneurial baker

We had the good fortune of connecting with Lizy Castro and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Lizy, maybe we can start at the very start – the idea – how did you come up with the idea for your business?
I am proud to be apart of the Hispanic community in my city. Lewisville Texas is the 8th most diverse city in the DFW area. As I grew older I realized that there was a gap between Hispanic bakeries and the growing population of the Hispanic population. I wanted to change that. At just 15 years old, I launched Lizy’s sweets; an authentic, Mexican based bakery designed to serve lewisville’s need for fresh & culturally relevant pastries. I have turned my passion into profit by impacting thousands of people in my high school & in the heart of Lewisville. My company has always been far more than just a bakery, it’s truly a culture movement where tradition, family & heritage come together.

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
The best part about being authentic is that there’s truly no image to upload. The baking industry is exponentially growing everyday. Although I do acknowledge and appreciate the bakeries that have established themselves here in Lewisville, the bakeries specialize in cakes for weddings, quinceañeras, and large events, but for someone looking for a single serving of an authentic, traditional, dessert at a relatively low cost- that’s not accessible. Which is why I’m depended on, sought out, and have grown so quickly,
My school has a program called incubator- in simple terms, it’s a mini shark tank, students get to pitch for real money, structure their business, and progress as successful entrepreneurs. Out of 21 other teams, I am the only all-woman team that made it to final pitch & won. I’m the first person in the program to present a bakery, and I’ve won over 1,000 in grants from organizations such as flower mound woman in business at just 16 years old. I’ve grown my social media presence to over 1,000 followers and over 100,000 views in less than a year of Lizy’s sweets being in operation, and I’ve made 6,000 alone within 12 months of me being in business. I’ve had popups and expo events at my school and I’ve sold out within less than 5 minutes. These are few of my accomplishments as a business owner. Success is much more rewarding when you’ve made a name for yourself from scratch. I’ve done so by staying true to myself, being an advocate for my company, and connecting with the people in my community. I’ve learned that it’s important to bet on yourself, and it’s better to do something scared, than to not do it at all. I want the world to know that success shouldn’t be measured by age, sex or race. It’s crucial that you break barriers, and be proud of who you are.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Morning:
Breakfast at Seven Mile Café – Cozy vibes, amazing pancakes, and great coffee to kickstart the day.
Afternoon:
Lewisville Lake – We’d rent a kayak or just hang out by the water, enjoying the sunshine.
Lunch at Rusty Taco – Tacos in a cool, laid-back atmosphere.
Evening:
Explore Old Town Lewisville – Walk around, check out the local shops, and maybe grab some ice cream at Handel’s.
Lewisville Lake
Why It’s Fun: This is one of the most popular spots in the area for outdoor fun. You can go boating, fishing, hiking, or just hang out by the water. The lake has plenty of parks and recreational areas, so it’s perfect for picnics or a weekend retreat.
Main Event Entertainment
Why It’s Exciting: This is an all-in-one entertainment venue with bowling, laser tag, arcade games, billiards, and mini-golf. It’s perfect for a fun day with friends or family.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I am incredibly blessed to have the never ending support from people at my high school. students, faculty, and mentors have motivated me to push forward in the face of adversity. But my ultimate inspiration is my mom, as she’s always taught me that anything is possible with the right attitude. My mom is an immigrant who came from nothing to give me everything. She always told me to work hard so I don’t “end up like her”, working long hours, enduring pain from hard labor, and being stressed with financial burdens. However, I hope she knows I hope to be half the woman she is; resilient, devoted, and hardworking. I’ve implemented these values into my business, as they’ve shaped me as a CEO and a leader. I am truly rich in life because my mom has never doubted me or my aspirations. My immediate family, such as my grandparents, my aunt Brenda and uncle William have always cheered me on and provided guidance, encouragement, and advice when I needed it the most. Their love, wisdom, and enthusiasm have played a significant part in my success. I am so thankful that I have a village to help expand my mission. I think everyone deserve a family like mine.
