We had the good fortune of connecting with Linnea Jordan and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Linnea, every day, we about how much execution matters, but we think ideas matter as well. How did you come up with the idea for your business?
I created Popovers and Passports as a travel blog designed to guide my readers on how to make the most of their trips with a limited number of days to spend in a new place. I coined the phrase “popover trip” after witnessing how it was possible with a little planning to visit a city anywhere from 12-72 hours, see the major sights, experience the culture, and sample a few favorite local dishes all in 12-72 hours. The word always rolled off my tongue and I loved the concept of essentially popping in a place and popping out shortly after. Hence a “popover trip” was born.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I’m not a travel blogger full-time, but I love the travel experience! I work full-time for Southwest Airlines. I love Southwest and the focus we put on creating a unique travel experience for our customers. It’s the type of company that treats its internal Employees with as much love and care as we do our external Customers. I’ve been working for them since I graduated college from American University in Washington D.C. and I haven’t looked back since!

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
My top restaurant recommendation in Dallas is rise n°1,! They have fantastic sweet and savory soufflés. The customer service at Rise is truly fantastic, and it’s a unique experience with their beautiful decor! I love stopping by Baldo’s for ice cream that’s near SMU. Baldo’s is a local ice cream shop that serves my favorite ice cream in Dallas! On a warm day, you need to try their ice cream flights! You can choose either 3 or 6 different types of ice cream served using mini ice cream cones. Texas is known for BBQ, and no visit to Dallas is complete without trying some of the best BBQ in the state. I love Oak’d for their outstanding BBQ and homemade desserts. They have two smokers at their property and they’re cooking meat 24/7! Don’t leave Oak’d without trying their homemade desserts and a frozen ranch water to drink! One of the newest experiences I love to do in Dallas for a girls weekend is MXY Blend Bar! You can custom make your own lipstick or lip gloss down to the name of the color and even the scent! It’s a truly unique experience and so much fun to create your signature color from start to finish. https://www.myxblendbar.com/ https://baldosdallas.com/ https://oakdbbq.com/ https://risesouffle.com/

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
When it came to starting my blog the first people who come to mind who always pushed me to take this leap are my friends and family. The support I received initially when I launched in May of 2018 blew me away! I didn’t think hardly anyone would want to follow my account and I was blown away when I went from 0 to 500 followers just in a day of launching. That support I received from my friends and family initially is something I’ll truly be grateful for. They continue to support me just as much today. Whether it’s proofreading a new blog post (a second set of eyes always helps), or helping me take photos for Popovers and Passports I couldn’t do it without my friends and family! The travel blogger community is the best when we all work together. I really was inspired by the Dallas-based travel blogger Helene Sula (@heleneinbetween). She has a gift for writing and creates beautiful and captivating content! Seeing her take the plunge as a travel blogger and being so successful at it really encourage me too! I’d like my shoutout to go to my friends and family as well as Dallas-based travel blogger Helene Sula (@heleneinbetween)
