We had the good fortune of connecting with Lilly Benitez and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Lilly, how do you think about risk?
Anything worthwhile will require at the bare minimum the risk of failure, and on the maximum the risk of immeasurable loss. However, I believe that tomorrow is not promised and I must do the most I possibly can to fulfill my calling. In this instance it it’s establishing a solid foundation for what Blade Craft Barber Academy not only represents, but is. Currently it represents a living result of the dream of a first generation latina in a predominantly male dominated industry. It is a continual elevation of the barbering industry, and a refinement of the people that inhabit the Blade Craft Barber Family lifestyle of dedication, quality, and acceptance.

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
Blade Craft Barber Academy is dedicated to its community and family. We are different in that we are fully present for every interaction, and strive to connect with the individual. I got where I am today by the loyalty of our guests, and the discipline of our students. Excellence is not easy in that it requires to constantly push past our comfort zones, but the ability to still remain to see our students after the bleakness of Quarantine makes it worth it. I’d like the world to know that barbering education IS available and welcoming to everyone. We constantly push the envelope by curating the most quality filled education from the products, information, and hands on repetitions. Experience is the best teacher, so we expose our students to as much as is safely possible.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Lotus Yoga Dallas teaches real actual yoga! They are so good at teaching it that they don’t need to add crossfit, or dance to it like some studios do. For a relaxing and phenomenal nail salon experience, I’d visit Sandy at D Nail Spa on Gaston for a Lavender pedicure. To get ready for an afternoon out book a makeup and blowout at BAM Beauty Bar in West Village to feel better than ever! Now for dinner plans it gets tough with all the delicious options. In Deep Ellum you can enjoy the BEST fried chicken and sides at Brick & Bones. For inappropriately named & delicious dishes, Hibiki Sushi in Deep Ellum is perfect. For the best hot chocolate try the Almond Milk option at Merit Coffee in Deep Ellum

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
My Shoutout goes directly to the Blade Craft Barber Academy family. The Family embodies alumni, students, team members, the Deep Ellum community, friends, and our guests. Through out extremely terrifying seasons their prayers, texts, and calls kept me searching for the opportunities because indeed there are always some.
