We had the good fortune of connecting with Lowell Malinis and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Lowell, how has your work-life balance changed over time?
Nowadays, I don’t work as much as much as I used to. It used to feel like 80% work, 20% free time but I recently have been doing more 40% work 60% free time. I learned over the years that living in the moment and enjoying life leads to a stronger desire to create and work harder. Don’t drown yourself in creating and let the moment pass you by, life only happens once!

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
A lot of my life has been trial and error. Life always throws a bunch of curveballs at you but you have to learn to adapt and face them head on. I never planned on having any success in photography, it was just a fun way to pass time and distract myself. At the end of the day, I’m no different than anyone else with a camera, I’m just a guy who loves to shoot photos & videos of people who I think are awesome.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I’m a very sporadic person so I just tend to go with the flow BUT first and foremost, I would take my friend to Val’s Cheesecakes in Lower Greenville in Dallas. Val’s has THE BEST CHEESECAKE in the world and Val the owner seems like a very cool guy that cares a lot about his community! Once we’d get cheesecake, probably take them on some rooftops in downtown and let them see how beautiful Dallas is! Second place I’d take them is Taqueria Los Angeles in Plano! We’ll grab some with the Chile Relleno Burritos, drink some Henny Horchatas and snack on some Churros. Other than that, I have no idea where I would take them. Probably just drive around and explore the DFW area!

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
The most important people in my life are my parents! They deserve all the recognition into shaping me to the person who I am today. They struggled and worked their asses off to ensure that I would get to enjoy and live life to the fullest. They just taught me the value of hardwork and enjoying the every moment life has to offer.
