We had the good fortune of connecting with Laura Smith and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Laura, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
My husband and I have dreamed of the idea of opening a daiquiris to go shop for probably about 10 years before we actually did it. After being a stay at home mom for almost 10 years and our youngest approaching kindergarten age, we finally decided in December of 2020 that we were going to start taking the steps towards making this dream a reality.

What should our readers know about your business?
Mamaritas is a daiquiris to go shop in Fate, TX. We not only carry a rotating menu of popular daiquiri flavors, but we wanted to stand out by creating a wide menu of margaritas. My husband and I love to drink margaritas so it was really important to us to make our daiquiri shop stand out from others by putting a huge focus on specialty margaritas. We offer frozen, on the rocks and skinny on the rocks margaritas. You can literally customize them to the flavor of your dreams. We have really classic flavors such as mango and strawberry, unique flavors like prickly pear and guava, and spicy flavors like Habenero Lime and Spicy Mango. We really enjoy seeing all the combinations that people come up with. We are proud of the variety we are able to offer. As far as daiquiris go, we love to rotate out flavors to keep our customers interested and always coming back for more. We find that mixing things up keeps people excited.

Another way we stand out is offering items that appeal to the whole family. This was so important to us since we have kids of our own. We offer a variety of kids slushes and over 25 flavors of shaved ice. We have always envisioned Mamaritas being a place that people of all ages could enjoy. We even installed a small kids play area on our lot so parents could let their kids play within their sight while enjoying time outdoors.

Mamaritas was far from easy getting started but it was so worth it. We started planning this idea out in December of 2020 and we finally opened our window in April of 2022. We had many obstacles we faced that included finances, location, delays because of COVID, and so much more. We felt so defeated on so many occasions but we pushed through every obstacle thrown our way and relied on God that he was putting us in the right place at the right time and that is something we truly stand on day after day.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Our first stop would absolutely be the Fate Food Haul where we are located at. It is a great food truck park filled with wonderful food and drinks and is just a great place to hang out.

A personal favorite restaurant of ours is a steakhouse called Four Winds in Wills Point. If you want a nice steak dinner where you can enjoy a beautiful Texas sunset, this is definitely the place to be.

Since we usually have our kids with us, we would also take our guests out to the Dallas World Aquarium or Six Flags over Texas for a day of family fun. Our kids love adventures and sight seeing so these places are perfect for that!

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I would love to thank our family and friends for all of their continued support of us. From spreading the word, to sharing social media posts and even down to helping with our kids, we are so grateful for the loving community around us.

I would also love to thank the City of Fate with a special shout-out to Suzy Lawrence for allowing us the opportunity to bring our idea to the area. She worked with us originally on bringing this idea into a brick and mortar spot in Fate and when that wasn’t working out she presented us with the opportunity at the Food Haul.

Thank you to the wonderful women who work with us. Without these amazing ladies, I wouldn’t be able to keep the balance of being a mom and business owner. They hold the fort down for me and I so appreciate them and their hard work. We truly couldn’t do it without them.

I want to thank our two wonderful children, Ryker and Axel. Thank you for giving me such grace and understanding during this transition of mom working again and for being supportive and loving. You two boys are everything to us and everything we do is for y’all.

Last but certainly not least, I want to thank my husband Tyler. Mamaritas would have never come to life without him. He pushed me, encouraged me and helped me believe that I could do this. He made this dream a reality in every aspect possible. Thank you for letting me be home with our babies for so many years and for believing in me going back to work even when I didn’t. Thank you for being the best business and life partner I could ever ask for and I am looking forward to years of growing this business together and living our best life together. Love you so much!
