We had the good fortune of connecting with Laura Burchfield Sockwell and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Laura, alright, let’s jump in with a deep one – what’s you’re definition for success?
I believe success is inner happiness. You can have a career that is raking in the money and still not be happy. Or you can have the family that you’ve always dreamed of and it still not be enough. Success looks different to different people but to me it’s enjoying where you are in life no matter where that might be. Having peace in your journey is what I always strive for.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
A year and a half ago I became a single mom and my life was flipped upside down. If you have not been through divorce yourself you mostly likely know someone who has. No two ways about it, it’s hard. I moved back to Dallas where I was born and raised, and a dear friend asked me to organize her home. I organized almost every room and it was then that I thought to myself, I can do this! A person’s home is their retreat, their safe space, and as of this past year, due to COVID, home has become an office and a classroom as well. It’s a passion of mine to create personalized spaces for families to not only live in, but to thrive in. The best part of my job is connecting with the people who invite me into their home.

There is something special about having a small business; you learn quickly what works and what needs a few tweaks. Plus your work means that much more to you! I look forward to each project because each one is so different.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?

If I’m going out I’m usually going out with my kids. So I’d be taking them to all the family hot spots!

My all time favorite restaurant is Standard Service in Heath, Tx. I’d grab a drink and head out to their huge outdoor patio. It has the best vibe! They have fire pits, corn hole, and a concert stage. Totally kid friendly, which means I can enjoy sitting at the table with my family and friends while my kids run around and have a great time!

Also one of my favorite places to go to is Northpark, it has something for everyone! It is more than a mall, it has stunning artwork, dinning, movies, and shopping. If you haven’t eaten at Eatly, it’s truly an Italian experience!

In the evenings during the summer time I love going to the Arboretum, they have concerts on their lawn. Bring a picnic blanket and your favorite drink and snacks and relax with a killer view of Dallas lakeside.

I’m Texas girl and love a good Ranger game. Grab a couple beers at Globelife Park and root on our favorite team! The new stadium is absolutely amazing.

On rainy or really hot days the Perot museum is the perfect place to escape the Texas weather. The dinosaur exhibit is nothing short of incredible. They have so many floors with cool displays.

Klyde Warren Park is such a gem right in the heart of Dallas. With the food trucks, playgrounds and splash pads, it’s an easy place to spend the afternoon!
There are endless places in Dallas to have a great time but these are my favorites!

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
It’s hard to choose just one! Honestly I have been surrounded by the most amazing women. Both my mom, Jeannette Burchfield, and sister, Paige McPherson, have given me nothing but love and support. I would not be where I am today without them.

My friend Amy Henry, who was my first home to organize, has encouraged me from the very beginning!

And also my friend Julie Hemsky, her kindness and creativity is truly a light.
