We had the good fortune of connecting with Kimberly O’Bryant and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Kimberly, what principle do you value most?
I want to thank you for providing me with such a great question that I really never sat down and thought about too much until recently. I genuinely believe the past couple years of my life have been nothing short of a humbling learning experience that has provided me with a great amount of wisdom and a new sense of appreciation that I would love to share with others around me. After an immense amount of heartache from losing my business, house, many personal belongings. savings, car, and a handful of friendships all back in June of 2021, I felt completely detattached from reality most days. I’ve always been a sponge for any emotion that crossed my path, whether it be from someone or my own mind. I could never find a way to release and lay to rest all the thoughts that constantly ran through my mind. I found out after buying a package of postinotes and some colored pens that writing a handful of short, sweet sayings to strangers gave me hope that I possibly made a positive impact on someone’s day. I knew that if I could get someone to smile and feel a little encouragement, that maybe, possibly in a selfish sense, I might have a higher chance of that kindness circling back.
The reason I explain all of this is because I’ve learned through losing almost everything I worked for in a matter of weeks, that I will never be able to keep anything forever except the everlasting memories and knowledge that others have provided me.
On every postinote, I started making a habit of writing on the back of them “love- a stranger that cares” and honestly as cliche as it may sound, I mean every word I put into them. Since June, I have made around a good 1000 notes and left them around in places in the DFW area. It may not be winning the lottery to anyone and a lot of them ended up getting destroyed by weather, but the possibility of spreading kindness in a world of chaos feels almost a little too good.
If I was to think of any value that mattered most to me, it would by far be empathy. Without this core value, I wouldn’t have the ability to fully appreciate another walk of life and that in itself is a blessing I’m delighted to share.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I’ve had the pleasure of being a professional tattoo artist, body piercer, freelance makeup artist, and model. The journey to get to where I am was possible by the folks who helped me through all the times I need advice or a lending hand. Without the support of others, I definitely would assume it would be much harder to network myself and grow. I would just love to inspire others to take that uncomfortable first step into changing the part of their lives that they believe could be better. Staying positive and not letting the negativity of others influence you to go against your dreams.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Fortunately enough, my best friend lives right down the road from me so it’s always fun to just hang out a local dive bars and have a drink or go hiking off trails in a new area. Anything that comes with a new adventure I’m already putting my shoes on and heading out the door. There’s nothing more amazing then discovering the beauty of others presence, even driving and looking at a scenery on back roads is an ideal plan for anyone that decides to tag along for the day.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I honestly couldn’t be where I am without the unconditional love of my family and friends. The amount of support I have recieved through some of the hardest points in my life so far will be forever cherished and valued because of who they have helped mold me into today.
