Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
My name is Kia, and I was born and raised in Dallas, Texas. The arts in general: fashion, design, and dance (tap, ballet, and jazz) has always played such an influential role in my life. I was constantly exposed to and inspired by the artistic flares of my parents. My father loves to create large, custom canvas paintings and my mother ensured our home was decorated and festive for the holidays. From the art pieces in our home to the performing and visual arts high school I attended my parents have always encouraged me to connect to the creative and artistic sides of life. My college studies led me to Texas Southern University where I obtained my Bachelor of Science then onward to Texas Women’s University completing Master of Healthcare Administration.
I relocated back home to Dallas and began educating myself on all things design. In 2020, I decided to take a leap of faith and start my own interior design business. Right after announcing my new business endeavor, I had the opportunity to design a Wash and Fold Café, a 1200-square feet clothing retail storefront, and countless E-Designs. After the storefront, I begin fostering long-term business partners and friendships within the design community and even attended multiple trade-only markets.
Building Flawless Spaces has been a slow and steady process. It has been challenging at times, but the reward has been worth it. One of the biggest challenges I faced was establishing a design process that was effective and easy to navigate for myself and the client. However, now I have a fully operating design firm which is on the path of becoming a hot commodity in the Dallas/Fort Worth Metroplex and beyond. I give credit to God, my family, friends, and the clubhouse design family. Everyone has been so instrumental in inspiring me to take on this business endeavor along with supporting me on this journey to becoming the next Design Connoisseur!
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Well, first things first we must eat. Brunch is my favorite meal so we would probably dine at Pangea, The Henry, Common Table or Ida Claire. We would enjoy the great outdoors and hang at The Virgin Hotel pool. Next day, we spend a full day at the Adolphus hotel spa followed by dinner at Nick and Sams or Dakota’s.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I would like to shoutout God, family, friends ,my clubhouse interior design community and last but not least the Black Interior Designer DFW organization lead by Chanda Kea owner of Kea Interiors.
