We had the good fortune of connecting with Kayla McDowell and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Kayla, alright, let’s jump in with a deep one – what’s you’re definition for success?
To me, success is confidence.

If you know you are providing value to your audience, that is success. If you are helping someone reach their own goal, that is success. If you are open to learning, that is success.

Success is having confidence to know who you are. To know and understand how capable you are. To know you CAN do anything you put your mind to. That is success.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
Creating an platform for Dallas black bloggers has been amazing. This community has been built on trust, support, and real bonding experiences. We are different in many ways, but feel like we are essential parts of the Dallas community.

Dallas Black Bloggers was created as an outlet for bloggers to gain recognition and support from others bloggers. We have connected with each other in such a deep manner, this community cannot be broken. We have created experiences from brunches, photoshoots, and through sharing resources to help each other get to the next level of their blogging journey.

I have learned so many things along the way of this journey. I have learned that Dallas black bloggers deserved their recognition. There are bloggers creating lanes for themselves and showing up for their audiences. They are receiving brand deals and getting more exposure than ever before.

And that is my story! The Dallas Black Blogger community is my story. I am also a blogger and understand the challenges that may come. However, the rewards of accomplishing the goals I have set for myself is so rewarding and I want the DBB community to feel the exact same way.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Whenever I have a friend come to visit, I love to take them to Legacy West in Plano for the ultimate Sunday Funday venture. The shopping and restaurants are top tier. We would begin at Kai Legacy West for happy hour and snacks. We would catch up in their lounge area and chat with other locals. Next, we would head downstairs for shopping. We would stop at Neighborhood Goods to enjoy a lovely, charcuterie board. We would stroll down the sidewalk to the Legacy Food hall to overindulge in over-the-top quick bites. We would stop to take photos of the amazing landscape throughout the property. Then we would end with some amazing margaritas at Earl’s Restaurant.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I want to shoutout the entire DBB community! Their support is unmatched.

As the DBB leader, I have to stay connected with the community. Why? Because I need to know how to support them! They share with me new blogging tips, new trends, and things they need.

Also, this keeps the line of communication open for all. We can talk about it, understand it, and share with everyone. It’s a total win-win situation.

They deserve all the credit.
