We had the good fortune of connecting with Kayla Arnold and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Kayla, what led you to pursuing a creative path professionally?
I’ve pursued an artistic career because it felt the best for me. A lot of art kids, even now days, are pushed so much to fit into this mold that society has for us. I wasn’t the best in maths, working 9-5 was hard for me, and I never wanted to give up my artistic extracurriculars for a job. I was very lucky to have switched to homeschooling for most of my high school experience which let my parents nourish and grow my artistic side. I was a photography apprentice for quite a few years and helping and seeing all that happened, the beauty of a person. nature, or of a big event being captured for forever was what lead me to this career.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I am a student photographer, I take mostly nature pictures and pictures of my lovely kitties that you can see on my Instagram! I am so grateful for opportunities like this one that people get to see me and hear about my journey! I started this when I was fourteen years old, which had its own unique challenges. I was blessed with family and mentors that helped me navigate so much. I’m looking forward to how my business can grow as I get older!
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
The one spot I think everyone should check out if they can is the Psychedelic Robot, it was such an immersive experience with so much amazing art!
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
My shoutout is dedicated to my parents, who always encouraged me to take my own path and grow my business. They helped me as a student, grow my artistic side and be comfortable not being traditionally successful but successful in my own way!
