We had the good fortune of connecting with Kat Watson and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Kat, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
I launched FIT4MOM Dallas in the Spring of 2016 truly motivated by personal needs. As a new mom, I desperately needed a way to connect with other moms and had no clue how to go about that. Even as a fitness instructor, I struggled with how my body had changed postpartum and initially studied postpartum fitness and wellness so that I could recover from a physically damaging delivery and diastasis recti and help other moms do the same. As I researched fitness options in our area, there was little available where I wouldn’t have to leave my baby and I wasn’t ready for that so I researched and found FIT4MOM. Since there wasn’t a location in the area, I started FIT4MOM Dallas Stroller Strides classes at NorthPark Center and it has been an incredible journey ever since! Stroller Strides incorporates kids into the workout so it is a great way to workout, to connect with other moms, and have fun with your kids as well! All the exercises are modified for new moms, and we are all experiencing similar challenges and it an incredible judgment free zone where we get to support and encourage one another!
What should our readers know about your business?
FIT4MOM is the nation’s leading prenatal and postnatal fitness program. Fit4Mom Dallas provides fitness classes and a network of moms to support every stage of motherhood. Our primary workout class, Stroller Strides, is a functional, total-body conditioning workout designed for moms with kids in tow. Each 60-minute workout is comprised of strength training, cardio and core restoration, all while entertaining little ones with songs, activities and fun! Each Stroller Strides instructor is skilled to meet you where you are mentally and physically. You’ll leave class feeling connected, successful and energized! No more mama guilt! This class is all about self care in a supportive and encouraging environment.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I can’t survive without spending time outdoors, especially hiking, running, or on a patio so you can frequently find me doing something of that sort, ideally a run that ends in brunch or a brewery. Dallas has outstanding restaurants and I love trying something fun and unique. I have a massive list, but I can’t get enough of Taco Y Vino, Tribal Cafe, Hello Dumpling, Tiny Victories, HG Supply, Ida Claire, The Gem, Flower Child, Tribal, Jose’s, and Banditos. I love hiking at Arbor Hills, Cedar Park Preserve, or by Lake Lewisville and have run Katy Trail and White Rock Lake more times than I can count. The Dallas Arboretum was where I got married, so even though the marriage didn’t work out, the gardens there are one of my favorite spots in the city. I wouldn’t let a visitor leave without exploring the Arts District to see the Nasher Sculpture Center, the DMA, the Crow Collection, the Dallas Contemporary, and my daughter is obsessed with everything at the Perot. Bishop Arts is the best for progressive eating, drinking, and shopping. I could easily spend days just wandering around listening to music playing on the street, and peeking in and out of doors to see where I end up. I can’t wait for live music to be commonplace again! Of course, you won’t leave without a fitness class, or two, and Dallas is overflowing with incredible options to interest any taste or fitness level. A few of my favorites lately are aerial silks at Blue Feather or Altitude and spin class at Class Studios (though I have still only attended virtually, which I love as an option). Gym 12 is further north, but you can’t beat the people or the workout. For the kids, we are regulars at the Perot, The Dallas Zoo, the Kids Play Co, We Rock the Spectrum, and Play Street Museum. Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I want to shoutout the incredible team and community that makes FIT4MOM Dallas the incredible business that it has developed into. We now have lots of fun Moms Night Out, tons of playdates, and many more fitness classes on the schedule and it wouldn’t be possible without the incredible moms who have dedicated their time and talents to making it an amazing village for each mom that attends. I also want to shoutout to my daughter, Afton, who is my motivation for everything that I do.
