We had the good fortune of connecting with Julyen & Karen Juarez-Sigala and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Julyen & Karen, have you ever found yourself in a spot where you had to decide whether to give up or keep going? How did you make the choice?
Jennifer Diaz once said, “Fulfilling your dreams will take facing your biggest fears, quieting your pride, and multiple failed attempts. Getting back up and trying again is how you become the version of yourself who accomplishes great things.” We want to be able to not only make our dreams a reality but also we want to inspire others. Giving up is the easiest part but getting back up and deciding to keep going is strength. Truth is, there will be days that you will feel like calling it quits but there will also be days when you will stand there and admire how far you have come. And that feeling will make everything worthwhile.

Please tell us more about your work. We’d love to hear what sets you apart from others, what you are most proud of or excited about. How did you get to where you are today professionally. Was it easy? If not, how did you overcome the challenges? What are the lessons you’ve learned along the way. What do you want the world to know about you or your brand and story?
We couldn’t be prouder of how far we have come. Less than a year ago we started our dulces enchilados. We always wanted to own our concession trailer. Now we sit here admiring our hard work. We launch our Pikosito Riko Food Trailer this March. It wasn’t easy but it was definitely worth it. Like many small businesses, we face challenges. Our biggest one was fear. The fear of failing but thinking will not overcome fear but action will. We took action and continued to push forward.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Definitely smoky rose is the place to eat. The vibe and the food are amazing.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
We want to shout out a very special group of amazing ladies who have not only encouraged us but have been an inspiration to others. Lisa and Carla from Inspired Nutrition in Arlington opened their doors to us as they do to many other small businesses. They were the 1st ones who gave us the opportunity to come out and be part of one of their events in hopes of getting our name and our products out there. To be honest, there’s many incredible people we have met along our journey. We want to truly thank everyone who has not only treated us like family but who has supported us along the way.
