We had the good fortune of connecting with Julie Tillman and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Julie, what led you to pursuing a creative path professionally?
As a child I was always creative. I loved painting, decorating, crafts and putting outfits together. I received my degree in Interior Design from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro and pursued a career in Set Design.
After years as a stay at home mom I felt the desire to pursue an outlet for my creativity but also allow me to be home for the kids after school.
Luck lead me to Polliwogs Childrens Boutique four years ago. I became the personal shopper…Personal Polli. Putting outfits for the cutest little customers is a joy!

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I am a personal shopper for Polliwogs Childrens boutique. I started in sales to learn the inventory and form relationships with customers. There are a vast of amount of brands and items to learn about and we are continually adding new brands. Slightly overwhelming at first but you learn as you go. Now I have established clients that i work with on a regular basis. I pick out baby gifts, birthday presents, coordinating and/or matching outfits for all occasions. I would have to say the hardest part for me was putting myself out there. Making myself known in the community and reaching out to customers and gaining their trust.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
There are so many fun things to do in Greensboro. I always go local. Eat local, Shop local. My favorite little Deli near UNCG that I’ve frequented since my college days would be my first visit. First Carolina Delicatessen. I always get the same sandwich…for the past 30 years.
Then I’d drive about a mile down the road and indulge in some yummy ice real at Yum Yums.
I’d end the day with a night out at the theater at Tanger Center with a show or concert.
The last of things to do is endless!

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
There are so many people that led me to the place I am in now. My husband was so supportive and encouraging. He knew this was a huge move for me and for our family. Our owner Margaret and manager Toni were and still are mentors and amazing women who are credited for allowing me to do what I love!
