We had the good fortune of connecting with Jude Holland and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Jude, what is the most important factor behind your success?
Artistic Integrity

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
Ego Jones began in 2018, when myself (Jude Holland) and my friend Gabe Garcia met at Booker T. Washington HS in Dallas, and started writing songs together. We learned as we went, and the development of our first album, ‘Fluorescence’ throughout the summer of 2019 was a huge learning experience for both of us. I began to dive deeper into the art of production, and worked hard to learn the ins and outs whilst writing the songs, which gradually improved as I learned more. By august 2021, we released our debut album, and we were both really proud of it, although we weren’t creatively very satisfied, as we had both grown exponentially in terms of our taste and skill by the time it was released. After playing several sold out shows and going on a little tour in the summer of 2021, we got to work on our just released second album, ‘Dormant Days’. With this project, we put all our energy into writing and crafting an original set of songs, inspired by many different genres and artists. Gabe and myself are both avid listeners of jazz, and we infused some of this sensibility into our songs, along with the sounds of modern Electronica, Indie Rock, and some of the classic textures of Psychedelic Rock. We hope our listeners hear the originality in our work, and we’re excited to see what comes next!

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I would take them downtown to see the arts district, and deep Ellum. I would show them all the best music spots in Dallas, and take them to see a multitude of local acts such as our friends Fishing In Japan, Naked in Public, and take them to see a show at the freeman, the leading jazz and B.A.M. venue in Dallas. I would also recommend dolly python, a local vintage store as well if you’re looking for some cool clothes. I would also take them to Josey Records, and Top Ten and Spinster records in Oak Cliff

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
