We had the good fortune of connecting with Jose Guerrero-Galvan and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Jose, why did you pursue a creative career?
the reason I wanted a creative career is because I didn’t want something for my life where I could be easily replaced. and I also wanted to take a different path than what would have been laid out to me had I not taken my future in to my own hands. I came from a long line of law enforcement officers, so veering down a path such as photography was something I needed to be steady in and show I could be successful in a different line of work than what I had been raised in.

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
I’m always most excited for whatever my next shoot is. No two photographs are ever the same, and I try to capture each artist in their true form. I don’t want to replicate an image, and I’m proud of a portfolio that showcases that.

Business-wise, I got here by doing a ton of research and networking. And honestly, by failing. It wasn’t easy. My opportunity to become the photographer for the concert series at the Levitt Pavilion of Arlington came at a time where I wasn’t even sure I wanted to pick up my camera again. When I lost my brother, the will to be creative behind a lens was destroyed. But the idea of doing what I love would make him proud is why I said yes to the opportunity to give my all to my business.

I want the world to know that everyone has a story to tell, and I’m here to capture it.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Ashim’s Hibachi Grill in Downtown Fort Worth, no doubt. The food, the environment, the people. It is an incredible place to eat and form relationships. the guys even named a sushi roll after me! and the sake. you have to order the sake. Downtown Fort Worth as a whole. Grabbing a drink at Razoos and being able to walk the city and sight see. Plus there’s some great spots to grab some wonderful photos.

Deep Ellum in Dallas as a spot to discover some up and coming artists, and maybe grab a beer or two at the Deep Ellum Brewing Company.

And of course, catching a free show at The Levitt Pavilion in Arlington!

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
Studying the work of Tyler Shields and having the honor of meeting him opened my eyes to the creative and non traditional styles of photography. I want to shout out Teshorn Jackson of Teshorn Jackson Photography who gave me my first real shot as a photographer when he began to mentor me. Karla Coyote, Sebastian Guerrero, and Meagan Hudson were the models that challenged me outside of what I thought were my creative capacities. The Levitt Pavilion of Arlington for allowing me to photograph and create connections with the artists who performed. My parents for understanding that I wanted to veer off of the norm. And my beautiful wife for being my biggest cheerleader.
