We had the good fortune of connecting with Johna Vaughn and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Johna, let’s talk legacy – what do you want yours to be?
Personally, the legacy I want to leave behind is the way people feel after being in my presence. I want to be an uplifting energy that is refreshing for any state of mind. In life, we have all been capable of getting caught up in our own issues and personal lives but what’s important is to remember we are never alone. I am not only building my own success, but also connecting resources and working together to build a stronger community of success!
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
What I believe sets my brand apart from others is The Hair Gangsta Barber Salon is truly an innovative experience! The way I have branded and marketed my business is very unique and the service is even more individually tailored to who sits in my chair. I love to combine traditional and modern approaches! To get to where I am professionally, I made sure I trained with great artists and business owners and several not so much- but they all taught me something. Not being afraid to start at the bottom and work your way up is important, don’t ever let ego get in the way of your long-term goals. Experience is invaluable! Also, knowing when to make adjustments and tweaking your business plan to accompany your goals if challenges occur. Don’t ever be afraid to change and adapt! It’s never easy! Success can be had by everyone, but will only be enjoyed by those willing to endure more uncomfort to achieve the fruits of their labor. If you keep pushing forward, you will eventually reap the rewards. And lastly, always listen to constructive criticism with open eyes. You don’t have to be perfect to start, just start and keep going!
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
West village is a great area for brunch, drinks, food, shopping! Going on the uptown trolleys are a must! Definitely have to visit a concert at The Bomb Factory or at other amazing venues in the area! For casual eating, I love Velvet Taco or Mikes Chicken or just head over to food truck alley at Klyde Warren Park! Sundays are for brunch and the Dallas Farmers Market! I love Dallas!
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
My family is the foundation of my success. They raised me to be brave and courageous but also smart and an independent-thinker. They never limited my ideas or goals.. but rather, they encouraged me to find a way to make it happen! They have also taught me to surround myself with people I can learn from and build a reliable support system!
