We had the good fortune of connecting with Jezzeka Brown and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Jezzeka, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
Starting to think about how our business and brand JezzxShaun came to be was a lengthy road. All industries can be hard at first, but with our history of creativity and with Shaun’s background in photography and content creation, all we really needed was a clear vision on acquiring our clients. Once we had that vision and a clear mind of what we wanted, it all fell into place.
The pandemic and lockdown also played a part in starting JezzxShaun. It opened our eyes to what a 9 to 5 job was to us- a full time job where you become stuck in the same cycle for the rest of your life. Shaun and I looked within ourselves and asked ourselves what we could do to stay away from this and landed on travelling, photography and creating content for other businesses.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
Our photography is an art form that we hope captures the uniqueness and beauty of each landscape and culture. With the Mavic Pro 2 drone, we are able to capture the landscape and accommodations from a different point of view.
I think what sets us apart from other creatives is our life experiences and the cultural differences in our relationship. I am a proud Awabakal woman (First Nation Australian) and Filipino who has lived in Australia as well as Texas. Shaun is Australian and has spent his life growing up by the ocean on the East Coast of Australia.
Our shared passion for travel and exploring has motivated us to seek new experiences and learn about other cultures and other points of view and try to express this in our photographs. We have created a passion for sharing others stories and places around the world and try to capture this through our photography.
We are most proud of how far we have come. We started with a dream and have now been able to travel around the East Coast of Australia and stay at some gorgeous locations and create content for various accommodations. We have also had our photographs published in various tourism magazines in Australia.
The main challenges that we have faced is getting our photography out to a larger audience. We continue to struggle with this each day but hope that reaching out to other creatives and collaborating with a large range of other small businesses will help us get out name out to the world.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Shaun and I are from Port Stephens, NSW, Australia. It is a gorgeous coastal town with a number of pristine beaches. If we had a friend visiting us for the weekend we would start with sunset at Birubi Beach which overlooks the largest moving sand dunes in the Southern Hemisphere.
We would then do sunrise at Box Beach in Shoal Bay with hopes of spotting some dolphins frolicking in the waves before grabbing a coffee and breakfast at the Inner Light Tea Rooms.
Another stop that we would have to check out is Mount Tomaree. This is a popular tourist attraction that requires a 30 minute hike to the top where you are welcomed with picturesque ocean views over Port Stephens and Fingal Island.
If the tides and sand banks are right, we would take them across the ‘Fingal Spit’ which is a sandbar that gives access to Final Island and the Point Stephens lighthouse.
Last of all, we would have to get fish and chips or some other seafood of our guests choice at one of the local seafood restaurants such as the Little Beach Boathouse.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
My business partner and boyfriend, Shaun Woodford, has played a large role in encouraging and supporting me to continue with our brand JezzxShaun. I would have never dreamed that it would be possible to create a career where I could do something I love and enjoy every step of the process.
I would also like to recognise the role that my family and Shaun’s family has played in supporting us and encouraging us to follow our dreams.
