We had the good fortune of connecting with Jesuton Donkor and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Jesuton, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
Freedom and independence as well as upholding and handing down a legacy to my seeds and their seeds.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
Cooking is an art on its own which demands an extensive amount of energy and concentration. Like the many gifts in the world, cooking happens to be the gift from the universe to me from my mother. That, coupled with the art of servicing others inspired and bore my dream of serving others with my culinary skills.

A journey of a 1000 miles begins with the first step, they say, and it has not been easy taking the first step. Fear of failing, fear of not doing the right thing, fear of not knowing where and how to start, others opinion and an overall feeling of low-confidence and self doubt seems to be a hurdle that needed to be jumped to get to see the other side of freedom and independence.

If my calling is through the art of cooking, I am ready and will gladly serve the world with the gift by harnessing my creative energy through love and goodness.

Nibia’s Rue de Flammes brings the love in the spices.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
A good laugh and music scene goes a long way for me. I would find a concert that makes sense to both of us and then visit the movies.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
My husband and kids are my biggest support system and motivation. They are the source for all the energy and passion to Nibia’s Rue de Flammes. I had been playing with the idea of a business for over 5 years.

It was the motivation and push from my husband and kids that led me to start the cooking journey and unraveling my vision. In fact, the word Nibia’s is the acronym of my 3 daughter’s names combined.
