We had the good fortune of connecting with Jessica Martinez and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Jessica, we’d love to hear about how you approach risk and risk-taking.
Taking a risk can be scary at times. Due to not knowing what could be the next step in you life. It’s like a gambling game weather you win or lose it all. Risk taking has played a big role in my career. From grabbing a pair of clippers for the first time. To not wanting to finish my college degree. Wanting to pursue my passion in cutting hair was a big risk. I left college to venture into something I had no clue in doing. Both events were terribly scary, however if I had not taking those risk I wouldn’t be where I am today living my passion.
What should our readers know about your business?
When I became a Barber, the first few years of my career I struggled a lot. I wasn’t making enough money. I was living paycheck to paycheck. It was a hard time for me, where I almost threw the towel and quit. Fast forwarding to now, I am no longer the timid, and shy girl I was a few years ago, and my clientele based has grown a lot. Looking back, I can say I’m most proud of my growth development in this field. By having a tough skin, not listening to others people’s opinions, and perseverance, is how I overcame my challenges that I had along the way. Currently, I am a Barber at Main Street Barbershop in The Colony TX. We are a local business, this barbershop has been standing strong for about 9 years. We provide our best craft and customer service to every client that has walked through our doors. From my experience working as a barber, I learned to always follow my heart and to fight for what you believe in. I also learned to never give up. Follow your passion.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
There are some gorgeous spots out here in the Dallas area. I recommend going to the Reunión tower. You can go sight seeing or have a nice dinner there. Or if you like pizza I recommend going to the Delucca Gaucho pizza and wine. They have a very unique pizza buffet. To have a nice walk the Ronald Kirk bridge is great to get some cardio in. And to have a good time out, I recommend the Grand Scape in The Colony. Where there is shopping, food, and entertainment.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I have so many people who have helped me along my journey, that I am extremely grateful for. I want to say thank you to those people for giving me a helping hand. I would also like to say thank you to Imagen barber shop. They took me in and taught me everything I know. I’m very grateful for them, they are lovely people. If your ever in the Lewisville area, that’s another good place to go for a fresh fade.
