We had the good fortune of connecting with Jeff Rockow and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Jeff, how has your work-life balance changed over time?
My balance has shifted significantly over the years – especially as I have had a family and matured as a chef. I spent many years working 60-80 hour weeks in the hospitality and restaurant industry with my nights, holidays and weekends always booked. That got old and tough with me never around and my little girls growing up so quickly. I slowed down for a few years with executive chef jobs in local private schools, and while that helped with family time, it was not as rewarding professionally. Two years ago, I went into business for myself as a private chef and caterer, so now I work when I want and do what I love, which is make delicious food.  It’s been a win-win.  However there will be more shifts in balance that will come as COVID has been a game changer for the food industry. I’m ready though and looking forward to what life brings.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Let’s pretend there was no COVID.  If I had friends in town, we would golf, go to the 6th Floor Museum, the Ft Worth Zoo, the State Fair of Texas (if the right time of year) and Six Flags over Texas.  For dinner, we’d go to Fearing’s or Mia’s for tacos and margaritas. Of course I would make a meal or two on my back deck with a wine to pair.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
My daughters think I am famous, that comes with a lot of love.
