We had the good fortune of connecting with Jay Honest and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Jay, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
I’m what you would call an experienced shopper, from finding the best bargains and deals, to splurging on expensive designer fashion, I’ve seen it all. Brand after brand I noticed a similar trend that started bothering me, the markup. Gildan sweaters are 14$ each and can be even cheaper when bought in bulk, your favourite rappers, artists and even major companies, are abusing this tactic and selling cheap items for 60$ completely ruining the trust between them and their customers, as well as the image. After years of throwing out clothing that would fade or lose comfortability after just a few washes, mixed with my love for fashion & entertainment, i sent myself on a quest to find the best distributors, manufacturers, shippers & everything required to launch a successful company!
From selling sizes XXS to 7XL with no price difference, something rarely seen in the fashion industry, express shipping as a standard, a CO that personally reaches out to you to hand you your tracking code instead of paying a higher rate for it (every company has this option, they just chose to make their customers pay more for the exact same thing), we are sticking to our main value of HONESTY here at HONESTGANG, and put our customers first with eco friendly and ethically sourced items and accessories, and even promote our customers via Instagram!
Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
What sets us apart from the rest, is the fact we aren’t some huge corporation, someone with a handout or had it easy. I am here to represent the ones who lost their homes, their brothers, their lives, I have been homeless and at my lowest point before, and vowed if I got out, I would use my story to make an impact on others. From doctors and parents telling me I could never achieve anything, to leaving home at 15 and being on my own from then on, life is extremely difficult to survive unless helped along the way. That’s why at HONESTGANG we build longterm connections with our customers long after they are clients, we go the extra mile and don’t attempt to bill people the entire way, that alone sets us apart from our competition.
Along the way I’ve learnt that people will spend enormous costs on clothing that really does reflect the quality, simply slap a logo on it and they will buy. Now, what if you used that same logic, but offered and amazing product and fantastic services. Thats HONESTGANG.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
If you ever take a trip to windsor, the only place I would recomend visiting is the Ceasars, as it is Canada’s largest casino, and a place where many legendary acts are seen, such as Bruno Mars, Stevie Wonder & Alice Cooper perform to name a few.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I would have to thank HONESTGANG as a whole, altho most people assume it is simply me who runs it myself, my wife alongside my producers, photographers & everyone else make it all possible.
At HONESTGANG we offer just about every type of help there is, from handling your public relations and getting you on the news, to helping your music reach the masses, now offering an entire luxury fashion brand and a published magazine highlighting upcoming creators, models & businesses in the fields of fashion & entertainment, HONESTGANG is always expanding to find new ways to help its customers and fanbase get the best services and products possible.
Other than that I’d like to thank my fans, Tommy Craze for believing in me, BeforeTheyWereFamous for posting my music & Instagram for verifying me and helping make this journey that much more serious for me.
