We had the good fortune of connecting with Jackie Sunga and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Jackie, can you tell us more about your background and the role it’s played in shaping who you are today?
I was born in Manila, Philippines. My family immigrated from the Philippines to South Texas – the Valley – when I was a year old. While I consider myself more American these days than Filipino, I really can’t forget my roots. My parents were the hardest working people I’ve ever known. They really taught me the value of hard work, bringing excellence to everything I do, and putting family first. I build my business today because I think about the legacy I want to create for my family, including generational wealth and creating impact that goes beyond my own lifestyle.

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
My business is an agency that provides digital marketing strategy, copywriting, and design services to therapists, mental health professionals, medical professionals, and other wellness professionals who are in private practice and who want to take things online to create online programs. My original career and first love was elementary music, but there was something within me that told me for years that I wasn’t meant to be in the classroom for the rest of my career – even though I really loved it. So much so that I had been a social media manager for a music education nonprofit and filled a lot of leadership roles. I loved music, teaching, and kids, but I found myself limited by what impact I really wanted to create in people’s lives, namely in mental health and emotional wellbeing. It was hard to pivot from a career I was so involved in, but I felt like I just couldn’t ignore what was tugging at me anymore. After having gone through years prioritizing my own mental health and healing journey, I found myself wanting to complete a life coaching certification program to help others. After completing this program, I had been asked be a speaker for a virtual conference, which ended up having 60,000 attendees and kickstarted my coaching business. I had also started a Master’s program in clinical mental health counseling, but realized how little training therapists are provided with regarding online sales and marketing and figured why not use the skills I had built up previously serving only therapists? After really focusing on this niche, my business grew to a six-figure company in less than a year. We are now a team of five, which I am really excited about. I wasn’t always at this place – frankly, I didn’t really believe in myself until I surrounded myself with other entrepreneurs who could teach me to dream and think bigger. If there’s anything I’d want to share with the world, I’d say it is to prioritize your healing and always, always bet on yourself. You will always be your best investment.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I live in Houston and absolutely LOVE the Color Factory. I’d definitely go to an Astros game but also go to a fun rooftop bar. We’d also of course head to some local spots like Discovery Green, Hermann Park, the Zoo, and tourist-y things like the Waterwall Park.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I want to shout out a mentor of mine who is a trauma therapist in Dallas, Diana Hardy. I’ve known her ever since my senior year of college. I think about her and all of the people in my life who really prioritized the importance of mental health and taking care of yourself so that you can do what you are meant to do and serve the people you are meant to serve from a place of love and not lack. My business serves therapists because I strongly believe that even though trauma can be generational, so can healing. When you have someone in your life who really can remind you of who you are meant to be and point you in the direction of what you need to take care of your mental health and emotional wellbeing, no matter what difficulties from your past that you’ve gone through, it can truly be life changing.
