We had the good fortune of connecting with Isaac Smith and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Isaac, is there a quote or affirmation that’s meaningful to you?
“To whom much was given, of him much will be required, & from him to whom they entrusted much, they will demand the more.” – Luke 12:48 I heard that quote as a kid & instantly knew it was true of me. Not sure how to explain it, but I knew then & more so now I understand, that much has been given & much is required. That isn’t to say that I come from privilege, or that what has been given to me is of financial or even material consequence. What I have been given, truly has been given to all. Yet, for some reason I have been able to receive it, embrace it & own it. It gives me the confidence & peace that others sometimes do not understand. It is why, when in conversation recently, another gentleman said “you know how we are all our worst critics”, I didn’t know what he was talking about. My mind & heart are not tormented with regret, resentfulness, mistakes, doubts, shame or bitterness. Rather I’m filled with hope, strength, wisdom & love. This might come across as if I’m saying I’m perfect. I’m not. Trust me I’m not. However, odd as it might sound, the mistakes along the way are opportunities not failures. “For the righteous falls 7 times & rises again.” That quote is on a sticky note on my desk. Proverbs is a fascinating book, it tickles the mind & deepens the heart. We all make mistakes. It’s part of being human. So if we all do it, why worry about it? What good does it do to look back & see how you are just like everyone else? Rather look at the positives that make us unique. Look for what you have been given & what you can do with it. I know much is required of me, but I also know that the battle is won & the path before me is one of victory, not defeat. I must walk it. There will be challenges, there will be set backs, lessons must be learned, wisdom will occasionally be evasive, & other times I will simply & stupidly make dump mistakes. However these do not define me. For I have been given much & much is required from me.
What should our readers know about your business?
Well I own a small home inspection business. What sets us apart is the care we take with each client. Every home is someone’s most valuable investment. We understand this & take every inspection seriously. Secondly, our reports are very unique. There seems to be a trend in our industry to make reports, longer, more complicated, unreadable & packed full of good but utterly useless information. We simply don’t do this. To coin a popular phrase. We’re like the organic inspection report. Simple, whole ingredients & none of the fillers.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Ok, in this scenario its 2019 & COVID doesn’t exist! In no particular order- Food: Old west cafe for breakfast. lll Forks for dinner. If I’m honest, Chick-fil-A for lunch. Entertainment: Dallas Stars hockey game. My backyard pool. Any where with my bro Josh. SK Arms for everything guns.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
Wow, where to start? My Savior & Lord Jesus Christ. He gave his everything for me. He loves me more than is understandable. He made me, knowing all the mistakes I would make. He loves me knowing everything about me. My wife, who is simply the best thing since sliced bread. She is perfect for me. We’re like pb&j. She is the proof that God loves me. She is the anchor to my insanity. She is the mother to our children. Soul mate. Books. Good books. Read good authors like McCullough & Beck on history. Dobson on relationships. Solzhenitsyn on communism. Covey on habits. Nee on a normal life. Haffner on Hitler. Ziglar on life. Young wrote The Shack. Browning wrote Ordinary Men. Kengor on Marx. The list is almost endless. Read, because you can. Read because you must. Read because others are smarter than you & me. Read because those who do not remember history are doomed to repeat it. Read because a mind is a terrible thing to waste. Finally the men who I trust to speak into my life. They know who they are. They are real men. Men of strength, wisdom, love & hope. No one else has the privilege to speak into me. This one rule is almost extinct in our culture.
