We had the good fortune of connecting with Irwin Daye and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Irwin, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
Well it started with people, and for me I want to connect with creative people in Dallas/DFW. Also, there is a dynamic about being in a black family environment that does not get captured in the film industry or on stage that doesn’t get captured in American history or society. I graduated from the University of North Texas, bright-eyed to a theater industry that wasn’t capable of moving beyond its predecessors’ visions of stage plays from playwrights of  non-color. I did not see my self succeeding in that environment without making a statement. As I thought about how I could impact the stage, I met up with Elliot Sims & Christopher Terry to have that conversation and since we’ve been working to create scripts to voice change in our own voices.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
Goals. I’m not yet near where I want to be professionally in life. I work with great companies and get opportunities that aid in my artistic endeavors. By all means, Southern Methodist University is a big help in networking with different types of people. However, I want to work with the likes of Tiffany Green & Bryan Henry Tyree professionally and that’s kept me hungry and humble. Not to say I don’t have food to eat, but without goals specific to myself I’m don’t have the . And mentors feel like a flaking friend to me, so the I find joy in taking the initiative to doing what I feel necessary to keep the joy in what I do. So yean. I think I’d have to say the goals keep me busy professionally.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Already. Well Dallas in a beautiful city with a lot of traffic. Check that out. I’d say check out the museums here. There are so many like to name a few I’d say African American Museum at Fair Park, DMA, SMU’s museum, Perot Museum but there are ton’s of small shops and collectibles out here to fill your spare time.
