We had the good fortune of connecting with Heather Henriksen and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Heather, what do you think makes you most happy? Why?
I love this question! What makes me happy most is being around the people I love. I love my family most of all especially my three sons. I do have a long list though of things that make me happy 🙂 They include spending time out in the sunshine, walking the beach with friends, reading a great book that gets you lost in the moment, having work that is fulfilling and brings me joy and continuing to grow in all sorts of ways including taking on new challenges, pivoting and learning all the time!

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I am a portrait photographer, model and actor! I have been a photographer for the past 20 years doing on location portraits of families and high school seniors. I love that my photos can be cherished for generations and bring so much joy to others. As a self taught artist, I know that even though so many others do what I do, we all bring our own unique gifts to our clients. For me, I love people and making connections with others. I have made so many amazing long lasting connections with people I would never have met. I know it comes across in my work and how I interact with my people. It fills my heart to do what I do!

The last 7 years, I have also added being on the other side of the camera! I am currently modeling and acting, too. I love that I am able to spread my wings and use my gifts to also represent brands and work with so many other creative people.

As an artist on both sides of the camera, I am always learning, growing and expanding! I I honestly feel I am where I am today because I continue to pivot and seek out new opportunities to change and learn. In the modeling and acting field there is a lot of rejection, so I have learned to appreciate the jobs I do get and keep doing my best ~ because that’s all we can ever do.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Let’s say you are visiting my home in the summer months! We would wake up early. Let’s take a walk! We can walk along the waterfront to a place called the Wiggly Bridge. It’s the smallest suspension bridge in the USA. We can then meander to the Fisherman’s walk with takes you all the way to the local Harbor Beach. There we can sit on the rocks and watch the waves roll in. I would suggest possible grabbing lunch a a local spot on the next beach down the road, Stones Throw. It’s a fabulous spot to grab a haddock roll or some tuna!
How about maybe we take a little break with our beach chairs and sit on Long Sands. I love to people watch and if it’s warm enough – let’s jump in the waves! I suggest we go home, shower and relax a little bit. Maybe you brought a book or want to take a quick nap. Let’s go in the early evening to Nubble Light, it’s our local light house. I think it might even be the most photographed lighthouse in the country! I think maybe a light snack and then hit the ice cream spot nearby called Dunnes for some Maine Wild Blueberry on a sugar cone!

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I have had loads of mentors along the way! I belong to a small business group of women who lift each other up and support each other as we grew in our own businesses. We call ourselves “Friends in Biz” and have been meeting for the past 6 years. I have had the encouragement of another friend who is a successful business woman! Before Addison moved to Texas, she and I would talk 4-5 times a week. Addison’s support, encouragement and belief in me came at a time I needed it most. I also would love to give a shoutout my most important support of all, my husband Matthew. Not only is he my partner and best friend, he is my biggest cheerleader. Without his love, support and encouragement, I know I would not be where I am today.
